20 years in Space with Female Founder, CEO and Doctor – Rai Menges (NASA fellow, Solar Sail, etc) Part 1
Our friend Lowell Thompson interviews Doctor Rai Menges , CEO of Aerospace Research Systems and CEO of Star Sailor Group (shared with permission).
Dr Menges is a serial Entrepreneur, director of engineering and managing director for a network of high-tech companies recognized for developing innovative solutions in space, robotics, computing, energy storage, renewables, materials and communications.
She is a fellow of the NASA Institute for Advanced Concepts (NIAC) for the development of a new class of functional structures. Current and past projects include energy harvesting robots, adaptive wind turbines, morphing aircraft, non-electrolytic power storage, motorless motion, space power, RLV’s, spaceplanes, small sats, broadband communication networks and zero-energy communities.
The company she founded, Aerospace Research Systems, is the oldest privately funded US space firm and is recognized for establishing collaborative R&D networks. Spin-off’s include the Star Sailor Group which is developing Dr Menges’ patented technologies in power storage, energy harvesting robots & performance adaptive wind turbines. Ars Verde, green art, is a high-level consulting group dedicated to sustainable product development & systems engineering supported by ARS engineers and scientists.
With 18 years leadership experience in research, engineering & corporate management, Dr. Menges has seven patents in wind energy, energy storage, smart structures & intelligent materials and is currently authoring a book on space systems management for Springer. She is a subject matter expert in aerospace systems, energy, ST&I/forensics and is an experienced flight test engineer and systems test pilot.
Dr. Menges is a mathematician with a doctorate in aerospace engineering and physics with minors in business management and international security studies. Postdoctoral research: Los Alamos National Laboratory, Space Engineering and International Technology groups.
