I am fortunate to live a rounded and integrated professional life through fascinating projects, in engineering, program management, finance, operations, procurement/supply chain, marketing, military, and civil industries, North America and Europe.
Each project represented an experience that stretched me with new questions demanding answers, the work was always intense, the people wonderful, the deadlines crazy, but in the end, it made my journey rewarding and exciting.
I understood that communication is paramount. When someone asked me what do I do for a living, I did not say "engineer" or "Program Manager”, I simply said: "I am a communicator". Every day my job involves communicating relentlessly and incorporating feedback until getting buy-in from all stakeholders.
A leader is nothing without his team and leading by example is not an option, is the leader's duty. Each person is an individual with its drives, hopes, expectations. To empower my teams I pay attention to each team member, and watch what he says, how he says it, how he contributes, and his body languages. I learned to press the right button for each person, to find and open a direct communication line with any person. Doing so I became an expert in assembling, empowering, guiding, and driving complex teams of specialists.
Mentoring younger professionals is my proudest accomplishment. I equal mentoring with planting a tree seed, by the time that tree grows and is relied upon, nobody knows who planted that seed but you. For me it is rewarding seeing how others enjoys the results of your investments.
My experience taught me to respect the past lessons learned but it also made me reject constrained thinking. When I hear we did something well in the past, my next question is "How can we do it better in the future?" In the long term, the surest way for an organization to fail market expectations is to repeat everything it did in the past. This is why at work I am in a relentless pursuit of innovation, continuous improvement, thinking outside the box.
Building the future is always my focus. I go to work every day to act as a thought leader, to create future state visions for teams and organizations, by employing integrative solutions across various business & engineering disciplines. I communicate that vision to people, I help them growing, and provide to them the tools they need to succeed. I walk the journey with them every day, minding milestones and deadlines, and watching from the sidelines their satisfaction to have grown a little upon achieving success.
