About this Mechanical Engineer role:

The role will involve designing, analysing and developing small satellite, providing mechanical engineering leadership on platform projects ensuring delivery of those projects to cost, quality, safety and time parameters.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contributes to the business by effectively performing structured work assignments and to support problem-solving for non-routine issues
  • Deliver work tasks and assignments in accordance to required standards and compliance requirements
  • Design of mechanical components such as spacecraft structures and deployable systems
  • Design of solar panels, including electrical architecture
  • Structural and thermal analysis of subsystems and platforms
  • Producing manufacturing drawings for suppliers and manufacturing instructions for in-house assembly
  • Interaction with supply chain to source components at appropriate cost, timescale and quality
  • Support to manufacturing, integration and test to meet compliance requirements and standards
  • Support the Project Manager with the customer and/or contract requirements to resolve any conflicts
  • Support business development activities by collaborating with potential clients to elicit technical requirements and assess feasibility for proposals
  • Generation of non-conformance reports (NCRs) and Engineering Change Notes (ECNs)
  • Support the engineering teams as required

Skills required:

  • Degree in relevant discipline or equivalent work experience
  • Evident industry experience of applying mechanical engineering to products and applications
  • Experience using CAD systems
  • Solid understanding of both structural and thermal design including practical experience of analysis principles
  • Evidence of resolving technical issues
  • Solid understanding of hardware/software product life cycle as appropriate to specialisation.
  • The ability to work to meet tight deadlines and progress several different projects in parallel
  • Excellent technical writing, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Can work independently as well as ability to effectively collaborate within cross cultural teams
  • Uses initiative and works towards finding solutions
  • Customer focused
  • Ability to make technical decisions
  • Ability to organise self and prioritise workload in dynamic environment and with tight deadlines
  • Ability to handle and progress on multiple projects in parallel
  • Competent IT skills including Microsoft software
  • Proficient in English, both verbally and written.

Skills desired:

  • Experience with SolidWorks
  • Experience with spacecraft engineering and/or similar industry such as aerospace and defence
  • Understanding PCB design and manufacturing processes
  • Practical skills in fabricating and modifying mechanical parts (hand tools, mill, lathe)
