About this Satellite Operations Engineer role:

The role is for a proactive, technically minded engineer to improve and expand our satellite operations activities.  This will involve supporting the design of mission-specific ground segments, preparing operation plans, developing procedures & tools and leading pre-launch and in-orbit operation phases.   The role also involves on-call assignment and out of hours working, ensuring delivery of projects to cost, quality, safety and time parameters.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contributes to the business by effectively performing structured work assignments and to support problem-solving for non-routine issues
  • Deliver work tasks and assignments in accordance to required standards and compliance requirements
  • Driving design of mission specific ground segment systems for service and data delivery
  • Deliver satellite communications through involvement in satellite design and test lifecycle stage, along with ownership of commissioning and nominal operations phases
  • Take ownership of satellite operations work packages for specific projects, managing own time to complete required work
  • Analyse data and investigate in-orbit anomalies
  • Developing documentation, designs and processes in according to regulations and licence requirements
  • Generation of non-conformance reports (NCRs) and Engineering Change Notes (ECNs)
  • Support the engineering teams as per required

Skills required:

  • A relevant degree or equivalent in experience
  • Demonstrated industry experience in a similar environment
  • Ability to effectively diagnose and debug problems with existing or new software
  • Technical report and procedure writing to a high standard
  • Can work independently as well as ability to effectively collaborate within cross cultural teams
  • Ability to demonstrate resilience in high pressure and dynamic work environment
  • Uses drive and initiative to work towards finding solutions
  • Customer stakeholder management and focused with basic commercial understanding
  • Ability to make technical decisions with a systems mindset
  • Ability to organise self and prioritise workload in dynamic environment and with tight deadlines
  • Proficient in English, both verbally and written.
  • Competent IT skills and with Microsoft software

Skills desired:

  • Knowledge of space mission analysis, RF principles and satellite design
  • Experience of programming in Python
  • Experience of RF / DSP engineering applied to space communications
  • Experience with space mission regulatory environment (ITU filings, insurances…)
  • Experience of testing or operating a satellite at system/mission level
  • Experience with constellation management
