With over a decade of experience testing rocket engines, and engineers who have worked at industry leaders like SpaceX, NASA, and Rocketdyne, Agile Space Industries (AGILE) is a rapidly growing company with many exciting Defense, Civil, and commercial programs in our portfolio of work. Located in scenic Durango, CO, AGILE designs, builds, and tests in-space propulsion systems for satellites and spacecraft using state-of-the-art 3D metal alloy printing techniques to rapidly design, manufacture, and test new engine designs in our purpose-built propulsion test facility. We are experiencing rapid growth and are expanding both our mission and spectrum of deliverables. We need a leader who can assume an active role in our high performing team.

Description of the Position:

AGILE is seeking a Director of Engineering to be responsible for leading our propulsion and test engineering systems team. This experienced team of propulsion and test facility engineers are supporting fast-paced rocket development programs delivering flight hardware for upcoming NASA, DoD, and commercial missions. We are looking for a leader who is committed to evolving a dynamic engineering team that can flex between the rapid pace of innovative development and the rigor of the robust processes required to deliver hardware for space flight.

The Engineering Director will be a key member of AGILE’s Leadership Team reporting to the Chief Technical Officer and collaborating with the Chief Operating Officer. This role will have a broad accountability and impact during the upcoming high growth stage on our path to becoming the industry leader in delivering in-space propulsion systems.

Job Details

  • Nurture, grow, and refine a world-class space propulsion engineering team
  • Lead a diverse and multi-disciplinary team
  • Manage engineering resources and internal and external stakeholder needs across multiple programs
  • Establish and maintain a state-of-the-art Engineering Process Framework, including
    • Refining rigorous production processes that meet flight hardware requirements
    • Adapting/flexing to support fast-paced development and IR&D phases
    • Developing applicable component and system architectures
    • Promoting lean manufacturing and six-sigma methodologies, where applicable
    • Accommodating ground equipment and test facility engineering
    • Leveraging AGILE’s rapid design/manufacture/test/analysis/repeat capacities
    • Incorporating and integrating test data into design and analysis consistent with quality practices
    • Developing fully digital systems capable of combining multiple data and information platforms to support “as built” designs that meet customer requirements
    • Standardizing design and review processes
    • Directing engineering safety and risk analysis
    • Compling with AS9100 quality and process improvement standards, as required by contracts
  • Collaborate on applicable space technology research with civil, industry, and academic partners
  • Establish general and tailored mentoring and training programs to ensure and maintain a high performing team, including finding and supporting engineering interns
  • Support schedule, resource, and cost estimation for proposal and business development efforts

Qualifications:

  • Masters Degree in Engineering and/or a STEM-related field
  • 10+ years of relevant industry experience, spanning the full life cycle of technology maturation from idea to production
  • Minimum 3 years of leadership experience in aerospace industry
  • Excellent project management and team development skills
  • Must be a US Citizen or national, capable of receiving a US Secret clearance

Preferred Skills:

  • Energetic, positive, self-starter with the ability to work autonomously while simultaneously leading and developing a high performing team
  • Experience with engineering analysis tools and software
  • Prior experience with propulsion systems
  • Experience with propulsion system testing
  • Experience with data processing and analysis
  • Knowledge of data acquisition and instrumentation systems

Employment Type: Full-Time

Work Schedule: 5 day/45hr Work Week, or as needed
