Job Description:

Digital Hardware and Firmware design, development and test of onboard and ground satellite equipment

As part of a team working on Telecom Technologies for mainly space applications, the target primary tasks and activities will include:

  • Hardware design of complex digital boards based on FPGA and microcontrollers, typically with RF signals conditioners, fast ADC and DAC, fast digital interfaces. Pre and post-layout of Signal and
  • Power Integrity board simulation. Rigid and flex-rigid board design.
  • Firmware (VHDL) development of digital signal processing and control functions for FPGA/ASIC
  • Software development (C/C++/C#) of interface and control functions for embedded systems (e.g. microcontrollers or soft processors)
  • Integration and test activities in laboratory
  • Capability of analysis, simulation and design of digital signal processing and control functions (Matlab/Simulink/C++) is appreciated
  • Preparation of project documentation (Technical Data Package, Test Requirements, Test Procedures) and execution of oral presentations towards international customers


  • Essential: Master’s Degree in Electronic (preferably Telecommunication, Digital) Engineering
  • Desirable: Post-graduation degree in Electronic Engineering


  • Essential: >4 years in Aeronautic / Defence / Space sectors in the fields of Digital HW and FW design
  • Desirable – experience on management of requirements of electronic equipment such as:
    • RMT requirements as per MIL-HDBK-217
    • EMI/EMC requirements as per DO-160, MIL-STD-461
    • Environmental requirements as per DO-160, MIL-STD-810
  • Desirable: experience also in RF Hardware design (from base-band up to at least L-band)
  • Desirable: system design activities in the telecommunication fields (Digital Modulations and Coding, Link Budgets)
  • Desirable: Experience on Linux OS and Embedded Software
  • Desirable: Space Parts and Units qualification activities

Tool or product requirements:

  • Schematic entry tools (Orcad or others)
  • Board Layout level simulators (Mentor Hyperlynx or equivalent)
  • VHDL simulators (Modelsim) and FPGA/ASIC synthesizers (Questa, Synopsys,
  • Xilinx/Altera/Microsemi tools)
  • C, C++, C#, Matlab, Simulink
  • Circuit-level simulators (Spice, LTSpice)
  • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)


  • Italian (fluent in technical and non-technical, written and spoken);
  • English (fluent in technical and non-technical, written and spoken).
