This is an opportunity for a satellite payload engineer to support the design, development, integration and test of our innovative system. This will be an exciting role defining the deliverables and overseeing suppliers and contractors to help deliver a genuinely cutting-edge system compromised of satellites, mission management software and optical ground receivers supplied by a skilled team of industrial partners.

What you will be doing

  • Review and enhance payload requirements, design, verification and analysis documents from industrial and academic partners.
  • Review and manage key performance budgets for the quantum payload.
  • Supporting design and test reviews.
  • Perform payload systems, electronics and photonics design work and define requirements for subcontractors.
  • Report progress and manage risks.
  • Provide technical expertise to other Arqit staff as domain expert.
  • Perform technology trade-offs and technical analyses.

What we are looking for

  • Educated to degree level in Physics, Engineering or a Technical Discipline (minimum 2:1)
  • Several years’ post-graduate experience in space systems design and/or AIV.
  • Knowledge of photonics and/or electronics design and build for space equipment.
  • Desire to work on new technologies and concepts for space.
  • Strong communication, organisational and time management skills
  • Able to work autonomously within a small dynamic team
  • Ability to work in the UK and ability to obtain UK security clearance are both ESSENTIAL

Useful to have

  • Masters or PhD in relevant field.
  • Experience with Systems Engineering processes and methodologies
  • Experience in optical satellite payload design and delivery.
  • Experience with quantum technologies and/or quantum cryptography
  • Experience with ECSS standards.
  • Familiarity with Modelling Tools e.g. MatLab, Python, System Toolkit, Zemax, ADS.
