AST SpaceMobile is looking to hire an Electrical Software Ground Support Equipment (EGSE) Engineer to design, develop and maintain our EGSE. For this position we are willing to consider candidates of varied experience levels, from recent graduates to senior engineers, and will compensate accordingly. 

Position Overview  

The candidate will be responsible for designing and building EGSE such as: component test equipment (CTE), automated test equipment (ATE), Hardware in the Loop (HIL) systems, and simulation hardware racks. This will include designing, implementing, maintaining, and procuring software and hardware for test equipment in order to validate flight hardware and/or simulation hardware used for flight software testbeds.

The candidate will be an integral member of the Software Team, which is responsible for the Embedded Flight Software as well as all Ground Software used for our missions. The candidate will have a large amount of latitude in terms of how they choose to develop systems, so they must be a self-starter and willing to lead efforts to develop new systems.


  • Design, Implement, and Maintain EGSE for a satellite mission
  • Identify and procure necessary hardware for test and development systems
  • Perform hardware-level troubleshooting on complex test systems
  • Create and execute detailed test plans to verify proper operation of hardware and software

Position Requirements:  

  • US Citizen or Permanent Resident Card Holder
  • Ideally in the Lanham, Maryland area
  • We fully support remote-work when possible, but this role will require performing hands-on troubleshooting and hardware interaction. When no hardware interaction is needed, working from home is fully encouraged.
  • At least a Bachelors Degree in Software Engineering or similar discipline
  • Experience designing test software
  • Strong software engineering experience
  • Test Engineering experience
  • Good electrical skillset

Technical Requirements:   

NOTE: Given the nature of this position, we understand that not all candidates will have all the skills below, but an ideal candidate will have most of them.

  • Experience creating automated test systems
  • Experience with programming languages like C, C++, Python, Java

Experience with using tools and equipment such as:  

  • Oscilloscopes
  • Logic analyzers
  • Multimeters
  • DC Power Supplies
  • Data acquisition systems
  • Experience with automating monitoring and control of lab equipment through software
  • Experience working with safety-critical, real-time systems such as satellites, automotive, etc
  • Experience procuring hardware for complex systems
  • Understanding of the fundamentals of testing strategies such as SIL and HIL
  • Comfortable reading cabling drawings/wiring diagrams/circuit diagrams
  • Comfortable using version control software, preferably Git
  • Comfortable working in a Linux and Windows environment

Desired Qualifications:   

  • Some experience or familiarity with Embedded Software
  • Experience setting up Continuous Integration (CI)
  • Experience with software like LabVIEW or TestStand
  • Experience using protocols such as GPIB or SCPI
