The Avionics team designs, tests and manages all electrical components to power the vehicle, measure the environment using various sensors, and transfer critical data to ensure the rocket is ready for launch and will navigate our customers payload to its intended orbit.   

We’re looking for a talented and curious engineer to join our Avionics Harness & Enclosure Design Team. As a Mechanical Engineer, you’ll help design the Avionics hardware flight enclosures. The Avionics Mechanical Team works closely with most all the development teams, including first and second stage propulsion, structures, avionics and satellites. In doing so, you’ll gain a detailed understanding of all the different environments and help define enclosure design requirements for each product.  

How you’ll help us achieve our mission

  • Own components/sub-assemblies of our Avionics System to create design solutions from initial concept to detailed solid models and released drawing packages including documentation of assembly
  • Analyze components using CFD, FEA and hand calculations to inform mechanical designs
  • Create development, qualification and acceptance testing plans for your system and support execution
  • Collaborate with a cross-disciplinary team of system owners including electrical, mechanical, controls, and software engineers to support launch operations; conduct design reviews and implement feedback/obtain stakeholder buy-in and to verify and document cross-team requirements are satisfied
  • Challenge the existing assumptions and design choices, bring your own design experience and influences on our systems

Desired Multipliers

  • Experience with NX, TeamCenter, Confluence, Odoo and Jira
  • Experience reviewing data and identifying root cause in failures and providing recommendations
  • High temperature and/or high-pressure structural design
  • Thorough understanding of heat transfer and thermodynamics
  • Demonstrated expertise in FEA or CFD
