Job Overview

For our headquarters in Noordwijk we are looking for a student in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or similar for an internship position. We are also offering the possibility to connect the internship with a Master Thesis project in Engineering or related fields.
As an intern, you will be part of the ATG Space Labs and you will support the team with Mechanical and/or Thermal and/or Thermo-Elastic design, modelling, analysis, and optimisation.

Tasks & Responsibilities

  • As an intern you will be working in the multi-disciplinary topic field of Mechanical and/or Thermal and/or Thermo-Elastic design, modelling, analysis and optimisation;
  • A specific scope will be defined together with the internship candidates in an interview; suitable to the experience and interest of the student and the needs of the company;
  • There will be an emphasis on application in space project work and there may be possible components of programming/tool development. The key tasks will include structural, thermal and/or thermo-elastic modelling and analysis on spacecraft instruments and units, learning how to do this in industry standard methods and applying it in real projects. Design and optimisation of units may be part of the topic. During the work, several ‘R&D subtopics’ may be identified and worked on – as needed and as and when agreed with the student.


  • The candidate must currently be a student with a completed BSc level education in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or similar and pursuing a Master’s degree;
  • The internship must be required by the study program;
  • Motivation to work in the space sector as well as other high-tech sectors;
  • Knowledge and experience of how to develop and realize typical and more novel Spacecraft Thermal
  • Control solutions and/or Spacecraft Structures is an asset;
  • Experience with ESATAN-TMS (transitioning from a similar software can be discussed) is an asset;
  • Experience with a CAD software is an asset;
  • Experience with FEM software is an asset;
  • Experience with programming in python is a strong asset;
  • Good work structuring, organization and coordination skills;
  • Excellent communication skills;
  • Team-player mindset; knowing when to ask or give help, wanting to win as a collective;
  • A rudimentary sense of humor, and ability and interest to work pragmatically are essential traits;
  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken;
  • Good command of Dutch is an asset;
  • Able to work at company HQ in Noordwijk NL (we offer a hybrid working scenario, with several days/week in the office, and several days/week at home).
