As part of a hardworking team of diverse engineers, you will plan and execute tests for various spaceflight Thermal Protection Systems (TPS) for our launch vehicles, in-space systems, planetary landers, and crewed vehicles. You will share in the team’s impact on all aspects of TPS. You will be a hardworking and detail-oriented person who will oversee test activities from their initial conception through data analysis and reporting. You will be part of a small team of TPS test engineers who support the TPS product managers and other engineers. You should be comfortable working in a fast-paced and often uncertain environment, contributing to innovative solutions, while demonstrating personal leadership, technical competence, and attention to detail.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree with relevant internship experiences or test-focused Master’s Degree.
  • Ability to travel to specialized domestic test facilities up to 25% of your time.
  • Capable of collaborating as a member of a broad interdisciplinary team across a variety of domains
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to communicate technical information clearly and appropriately to at the executive leadership level and on the shop floor.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and strengthen our culture of inclusion
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Desired:

  • 5+ years experience in a test-focused role
  • Experience with test planning and execution of thermal protection system environmental tests.
  • Aerospace/Launch vehicle experience.
  • Experience with safety critical systems.
  • Experience leading tests using one or more of the following methods:
    • High enthalpy arc jet
    • Thermoacoustic
    • Rain erosion
    • Mechanical allowable
    • Lightning
    • Impact
    • Thermal properties
    • Catalycity
    • Hot structure subsystem tests
    • Hypervelocity impact
