Senior Avionics Systems Engineer

In this role, you will support the systems engineering activities for one of Blue Origin’s rocket engine control systems consisting of controller hardware, software, valves, actuators, harnesses and a variety of critical sensors. You will collaborate with engine and vehicle systems engineers to decompose mission, performance and safety requirements to the components of the engine control system in a well-organized specification tree with a comprehensive validation and verification plan that supports DO-178C and DO-254 compliance. Additionally, you will collaborate with the team to achieve entry and exit criteria for gated design reviews such as System Requirements Review (SRR), Preliminary Design Review (PDR) and Critical Design Review (CDR).

As part of a diverse and hardworking team of specialists, you will interface with customers and establish processes and plans to manage change throughout the life cycle of the program.

Qualifications:

  • S. degree or higher in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Science
  • Either 10+ years of Systems Engineering experience or experience leading 3-4 full development life cycle programs/projects for electronic hardware and/or software systems/sub-systems within the Aerospace industry or another similar safety critical industry.
  • Knowledge and experience of systems engineering practices per ARP4754A or similar standard
  • Plan and successfully execute of projects based on cost and schedule targets
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; strength in teaming and collaboration in a diverse work environment, self-starter
  • Experience with DOORS classic, DOORS Next Gen (DNG) or other system requirement software equivalent
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

 Desired:

  • Familiarity with avionics or aircraft / rocket engine system control
  • Experience with avionics (commercial aircraft, military aircraft or space vehicle) SW and HW system development (inclusive of DO-178C and DO-254)
