We are looking to add a Senior Satellite Systems Engineer II to our Internal Missions team. If you are great at what you do, enjoy working in a startup environment, and are passionate about developing space hardware for leading-edge communications satellites, we would like to hear from you.

In this position, you will be responsible for the full lifecycle systems engineering of a variety of spaceflight products and programs. The ideal candidate will be a Satellite Systems Engineering with experience across the full spaceflight lifecycle from concept to decommissioning and including operations and AI&T.

As a Cesium satellite systems engineer, you will define and develop satellite and mission system architectures. You will lead trade studies, define ConOps, set requirements, and conduct system verification and validation efforts. You will work with a cohort of senior and principal systems engineers to maximize mission success for internal and external programs and serve as the chief technical POC for customers and vendors.

Requirements

  • Industry experience in space flight systems engineering
  • Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Aerospace Engineering from an accredited university
  • Minimum of six years of experience with a bachelor’s degree or four years of experience with a Master’s degree
  • Strong understanding of full-cycle satellite systems engineering
  • Complete understanding of all subsystems on a satellite and the interactions between them
  • Experience in spacecraft and component assembly, integration, and test including environmental and functional testing
  • Extensive experience in a space laboratory environment with test equipment, electrical ground support equipment, and mechanical ground support equipment
  • Experience participating, conducting, and leading system design reviews
  • Experience with requirements management in MS Excel, as well as purpose-built software such as Jama, Doors, or others
  • Experience negotiating ConOps, success criteria, and measures of effectiveness with stakeholders
  • Experience with failures in post-CDR testing, root cause analysis, and corrective actions
  • Experience with failures and near-misses in orbit that inform your critique of future designs
  • Experience with multiple spacecraft architectures that informs your architecture and ConOps decisions for future missions

    • Experience negotiating ConOps, success criteria, and measures of effectiveness with stakeholders
    • Cool, calm, and collected demeanor enabling you to provide technical guidance and juggle multiple ongoing programs
    • Excellent written and verbal communications skills

    Preferred experience includes:

    • Python, C++, MATLAB, or other programming languages
    • Hands-on experience with multiple CubeSats or SmallSats
    • Experience in both large and small organizations
    • Experience with satellites in LEO, MEO, GEO, and Beyond
    • Experience with ground segment systems engineering and operations
    • Experience with failures in post-CDR testing, root cause analysis, and corrective actions
    • Experience with failures and near-misses in orbit that inform your critique of future designs
    • Experience with multiple spacecraft architectures that informs your architecture and ConOps decisions for future missions
    • Solid understanding of the near-Earth radiation environment and the various effects of radiation on satellite hardware and software

    The salary range for this role is $90,000 to $110,000; however, CesiumAstro considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, education/training, and key skills. We also provide generous benefits and stock option packages to all our employees.
