About the company
Trillium Technologies is a small social enterprise with programs in the US, Europe and Australia. We deliver research programs of tailored interdisciplinary teams, tackling some of the most interesting and important challenges of our time using Artificial Intelligence (AI). These range from detecting and managing bushfires, to creating detailed maps of resources on the Moon, from mitigating the effects of global heating to deploying ML Payloads into orbit and astronaut health.
Our research programs apply agile methods to make rapid progress towards solutions, and are guided by academic rigor and open science principles. We build supportive communities involving top-level academic institutions, national science and space agencies, leading technology firms, and global aerospace companies. This broad and deep partner network enables state-of-the-art results by supplying world-leading expertise in AI and domain science, combined with significant resources to find solutions at scale.
We have been delivering our flagship program, the Frontier Development Lab (FDL) – an AI and space science and exploration research partnership with NASA (FDL.ai) and the SETI Institute – for six years. FDL has enabled us to diversify into climate change and disaster response, while supporting NASA’s Science Mission Directorate to develop new AI applications in space weather, lunar exploration, exploration medicine, planetary defense and astrobiology. Over the past few years, our SpaceML.org initiative has built capacity in the deployment and data sharing of FDL algorithms for NASA such as Worldview Search (Worldview) and the comet hunting pipeline (CAMS). Meanwhile FDL Europe with ESA, has been deploying ML payloads to space in partnership with Oxford University and D-Orbit.
If you share our excitement at meeting the best of the best from around the world and seeing first hand how innovation happens from the back of a napkin to deployment in space, this is the opportunity for you. At the same time, join a lovely small team of people who want everyone – from the most senior to the most junior – to have a great ride along the way.
We need someone to lead our work in the development and delivery of our established US based programs including FDL and spin-out AI deployment and jump-start new programs in Blue Carbon (oceanic carbon sequestration) wildfires and ML enabled space medicine.
