Description

As Head of In-Space Propulsion, you organize, manage, and lead our distributed in-space propulsion department with engineering teams in New-Zealand and the Netherlands. This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to an exciting, fast-growing company in the aerospace industry and develop world-leading propulsion technology.

In this role you report directly to the Chief Technical Officer and main responsibility is to drive the long-term goals and governing principles that Dawn’s propulsion business is aiming towards. The Head of In-Space Propulsion leads the development teams and collaborates with other business departments in sales, operations, and finance in order to roll out new propulsions system developments and implement the best organizational patterns and practices.

You should be familiar with high growth environments, have a demonstrated history of good judgment in a highly technical field, and take ownership of tough challenges.

Responsibilities

  • Support CTO to develop the in-space propulsion long-term goals and technology strategy.
  • Define/implement the technology path and development plan and identifying key risks and mitigation strategies.
  • Responsible for resource management to organize, build and manage a high-performance department.
  • Provide (technical) leadership and guidance to the engineering teams.
  • You promote and facilitate close collaboration between the teams during the design, development, manufacturing and AIT phases.
  • Responsible for the achievement of the key objectives of the in-space propulsion systems development.
  • Focal point for all in-space propulsion development to internal teams, customers, partners and suppliers.

Requirements

  • Degree in Aerospace, Mechanical Engineering or similar.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in propulsion system development.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor and grow staff.
  • Experience in translating long-term goals into action plans.
  • Experience in organizing a team, overseeing workload and setting of priorities.
  • A real team player with strong interpersonal skills and a strong quality orientation.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills and a dedication to achieving results on time.
  • A good command of English, both written and spoken.
  • Willingness to travel and spend periods in New-Zealand

Desired qualifications

  • Experience with space qualification standards such as ECSS.
  • Experience with space systems development lifecycles.
  • Experience with project/programme management.
