Electronics Engineer: In-space propulsion

Dawn Aerospace is looking for a skilled and motivated person to undertake electrical engineering responsibilities for in-space propulsion spacecraft systems. The individual will be working closely with all vehicle sub-teams to design and implement electrical solutions from high-level requirements, all the while contributing to our goal of achieving scalable, accessible and sustainable spaceflight.
Responsibilities
- Translate engineering requirements and specifications into high quality, well-tested, electronic systems
- End-to-end ownership of electronical systems – from specification through design, prototype, validation, and manufacturing
- Design circuit boards for a breath of applications, including digital, analogue, mixed signal, and power electronic systems
- Work alongside engineers from a variety of disciplines
- Coordination with component suppliers
- Clearly document and present designs at various stages of completion
- Project management for the full life cycle of development to production, by actively managing development, and test schedules through to the manufacturing, ensuring timely delivery of flight hardware
- Systems engineering, to ensure that all requirements are met, while no other systems are negatively impacted
- Production of flight hardware, prototype development, selection of vendors and production methods
- System integration of electronics into satellites
- This role may require travel domestically and internationally
Requirements
Required experience
- Bachelors or Masters in Electrical Engineering or a related field, or the equivalent in experience and evidence of exceptional ability
- 2+ years relevant experience
- Experience working with digital communication busses, including I2C, CAN, SPI, RS-485
- Experience in selection and use of analogue sensors and signal conditioning circuits
- Experience with PCB design and working with EDA software, such as Altium, Cadence or KiCad
- Experience with design for EMC
- Knowledge of the full life cycle of electronics development (requirements, to basic circuits, to a full design and the subsequent production)
- Experience with testing, troubleshooting and debugging electronic hardware
- Proficiency with basic electrical laboratory equipment, including scopes and vector network analysers
- Knowledge of systems engineering
- Ability to work in a highly cross-functional role
- Proven oral and written communication skills (English)
Desired experience
- 2+ years of experience designing high-reliability products
- Wide range of hands-on skills from PCB assembly to wire harness/cable tree construction to automotive/aerospace standards
- Experience writing embedded software in C or Rust
- Experience using mechanical CAD software
- Experience with high-reliability electronics (e.g. DO-254)
- Wide experience from microcontrollers to x86s, and from PLDs to FPGAs.
- Experience with RF systems
- Basic understanding of mechanical design fundamentals
- Experience in other programming languages either Python, C, C++, or Rust
- Experience with version management systems such as Git
- Experience with PCB layouting of high-speed busses
