Company Details

Delivering hardware to space. Positioning satellites on orbit.

Dawn Aerospace is looking for a skilled and motivated person to undertake electrical engineering responsibilities for in-space propulsion spacecraft systems. The individual will be working closely with all vehicle sub-teams to design and implement electrical solutions from high-level requirements, all the while contributing to our goal of achieving scalable, accessible and sustainable spaceflight.

  • Translate engineering requirements and specifications into high quality, well-tested, electronic systems
  • End-to-end ownership of electronical systems – from specification through design, prototype, validation, and manufacturing
  • Design circuit boards for a breath of applications, including digital, analogue, mixed signal, and power electronic systems
  • Work alongside engineers from a variety of disciplines
  • Coordination with component suppliers
  • Clearly document and present designs at various stages of completion
  • Project management for the full life cycle of development to production, by actively managing development, and test schedules through to the manufacturing, ensuring timely delivery of flight hardware
  • Systems engineering, to ensure that all requirements are met, while no other systems are negatively impacted
  • Production of flight hardware, prototype development, selection of vendors and production methods
  • System integration of electronics into satellites
  • This role may require travel domestically and internationally

Required experience

  • Bachelors or Masters in Electrical Engineering or a related field, or the equivalent in experience and evidence of exceptional ability
  • 2+ years relevant experience
  • Experience working with digital communication busses, including I2C, CAN, SPI, RS-485
  • Experience in selection and use of analogue sensors and signal conditioning circuits
  • Experience with PCB design and working with EDA software, such as Altium, Cadence or KiCad
  • Experience with design for EMC
  • Knowledge of the full life cycle of electronics development (requirements, to basic circuits, to a full design and the subsequent production)
  • Experience with testing, troubleshooting and debugging electronic hardware
  • Proficiency with basic electrical laboratory equipment, including scopes and vector network analysers
  • Knowledge of systems engineering
  • Ability to work in a highly cross-functional role
  • Proven oral and written communication skills (English)

Desired experience

  • 2+ years of experience designing high-reliability products
  • Wide range of hands-on skills from PCB assembly to wire harness/cable tree construction to automotive/aerospace standards
  • Experience writing embedded software in C or Rust
  • Experience using mechanical CAD software
  • Experience with high-reliability electronics (e.g. DO-254)
  • Wide experience from microcontrollers to x86s, and from PLDs to FPGAs.
  • Experience with RF systems
  • Basic understanding of mechanical design fundamentals
  • Experience in other programming languages either Python, C, C++, or Rust
  • Experience with version management systems such as Git
  • Experience with PCB layouting of high-speed busses
