Dawn Aerospace is recruiting a spacecraft mechanical engineer to join our New Zealand team. This is a fantastic opportunity to join an exciting, fast-growing company in the space industry and develop world-leading in-space propulsion technology for small satellites.

This role will involve the design and analysis of spacecraft propulsion systems in the SatDrive and CubeDrive product lines. In doing so, you will directly contribute to the success of our customers’ commercial, scientific and interplanetary spacecraft missions.

We are looking for creative and detail focused candidates who can take the initiative, multi-task and work with minimal direction. You must be willing to go the extra mile to produce exceptional designs.

What you will do

  • Design, analysis, manufacture, integration and testing of satellite propulsion systems
  • Support mechanical, electrical, and fluid integration of propulsion subsystems including liquid rocket engines, feedsystems, propellant tanks, and interfaces to ground support systems.
  • Develop and execute test procedures for verification and validation of systems and components, including qualification and acceptance testing.
  • System sizing, component selection and vendor management.
  • Support the commercial and management team in sizing, planning, scheduling and budgeting of spacecraft propulsion projects


  • A degree in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering or similar.
  • 2+ years experience in design of complex systems
  • Proficiency with Solidworks
  • Proven oral and written communication skills and the ability to build strong working relationships with colleagues and engineering professionals
  • Capable of working effectively autonomously and as part of a team
  • The ability to adapt to change quickly and positively

Desired experience

  • Proficiency with numerical analysis methods and tools such as Ansys Mechanical, Fluent, CFX.
  • Familiar with spacecraft design standards
  • Familiarity with quality management systems such as AS9100
  • Proficiency with Labview and MatLab.
