Description

Dawn Aerospace’s In-space Propulsion Electronics team is looking for a talented Intermediate/Senior Electronics Engineer to design and develop world-leading satellite propulsion technology. This is a fantastic opportunity to work in a young, fast paced and motivated team where you will be responsible for taking systems from idea to orbit.

In this role you will take responsibility of projects from the design and qualification of space hardware to NASA and ECSS space standards to the development of serial production infrastructure. With a focus on reliability, you would be responsible for supporting the development of our space environment testing and qualification processes while also diagnosing problems and designing solutions.

Responsibilities

  • End-to-end ownership of electrical systems – from specification through to design, prototype, testing, validation, manufacturing and integration.
  • Design and review PCBAs for a breath of applications (digital, analogue, mixed signal, and power electronic).
  • FMEA and reliability assessments of space flight hardware.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, systems and software teams to successfully qualify flight hardware according to space standards. This includes leading test campaigns such as EMC, radiation, TVAC and accelerated lifetime.
  • This role may require travel domestically and internationally.

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering, or the equivalent in experience and evidence of exceptional ability.
  • 3+ years of relevant hands-on experience developing electronics for high reliability applications, preferably Aerospace.
  • Exceptional understanding of circuit theory and electronics fundamentals.
  • Understanding of component selection and reliable implementation of semi-conductor devices including Si/GaN MOSFETs and diodes.
  • Good experience with PCB design and working with EDA software, such as Altium, Cadence or KiCad.
  • Familiar with circuit simulation tools.
  • Experience with FMEA reliability assessments.
  • Understanding of accelerated lifetime testing.
  • Familiar with testing to regulatory standards, troubleshooting and debugging electronic hardware.
  • Knowledge of the PCB manufacturing and assembly process.
  • Proven oral and written communication skills (English).

Desired qualifications/experience

  • Masters degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Familiar with radiation tolerant design and radiation testing.
  • Experience designing and testing electronics to ECSS or NASA specifications.
  • Familiar with DO-254 and DO-160 standards.
  • Familiar with Python, C, C++ and Git.
  • Experience with developing hardware in the loop systems.

To do this, we build scalable, accessible, and sustainable spaceflight technologies – technologies that are sustainable for not just the foreseeable future, but the unforeseeable future.

The company has achieved a series of significant milestones in the past 12 months, including launching 33 propulsion units to space and completing the successful first flights of the suborbital spaceplane, the Dawn Mk-II Aurora. Dawn was named Hi-Tech Startup Company of the Year (2020) and won the Supreme Award for medium/large business at the Westpac Champion Business Awards 2021.

Current customers include the likes of D-Orbit, ALE, Pixxel, Blue Canyon, the Indonesian Space Agency, and a large number of yet-to-name constellations. Dawn’s satellite propulsion business is forecast to more than double during 2022. Based on current units in space and in production, we’re fast on track to become the number one supplier of green-chemical propulsion systems globally.
