DLR is the Federal Republic of Germany's research centre for aeronautics and space. We conduct research and development activities in the fields of aeronautics, space, energy, transport, security and digitalisation. Avionic systems play a major role in modern aircraft. Many functions of the aircraft are realized by airborne embedded systems. The number of such functions is steadily growing due to the increasing levels of automation and autonomy. Future aircraft will not only be smart, but also connected. In the civil aviation, the connection to traffic management systems and the communication of cooperating aircraft are of great importance. Military applications also include integration into swarms of a large number airborne platforms as well interacting with ground-based systems. Safety and security is of utmost importance for airborne embedded systems.
As part of your scientific work, you will develop innovative approaches for utilizing emerging platforms, such as multi-core processors, emerging architectures, such as Service Oriented Architecture, and emerging method, such as continuum development for safe and secure embedded systems of the future civil and military aircraft. As part of your scientific work, you will develop innovative approaches for the design and analysis of safe and secure embedded systems for future civil and military aircraft. In addition to architectures that minimize the risk of malicious attack, you will also develop methods for detecting malicious attack and potential defense strategies.

- Master degree from computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering or similar disciplines
- experience in embedded systems through employment, education or theses.
- good command on at least one systems programming languages, such as C/C++, ADA or Rust
- very good spoken and written English skills
- ideally, experience in development methods and standards for safety-critical systems, preferably in avionics domain
- knowledge in programming for Linux and real-time operating systems is desirable
- experience in model-based design using MATLAB/Simulink, Ansys SCADE Suite or Scilab/Xcos is desirable
- good spoken and written German skills is an advance
Duration of contract
3 years, fulltime.
