DLR Institute of Space Systems in Bremen designs and analyses future spacecraft and space missions (launchers, orbital and exploration systems, and satellites), and assesses them with regard to their technical performance and cost. It applies state-of-the-art methods of multi-disciplinary engineering in system design and analysis

Your mission:

The Institute of Space Systems in Bremen analyzes and evaluates complex space systems with regard to their technical, economic and socio-political relevance. It develops space-based applications for scientific / commercial / security-related needs and implements them in cooperation with DLR institutes, other research institutions and industry.

The task includes maintenance, test and construction tasks within the scope of the institute’s objectives and the work in the Mechanics and Thermal Systems department with the following focal points:

  • Service, maintenance and repair of the systems of the solar thermal vacuum test laboratory (STV) and the mechanical-dynamic test laboratory (MDT) according to the instructions of the laboratory management
  • Construction, drawing up and, if necessary, production of auxiliary devices and test adapters to adapt the respective test objects to the test equipment
  • Assembly of test setups for thermal vacuum and vibration tests
  • Implementation and support of test campaigns in the area of ​​the STV laboratory and the MDT laboratory according to the instructions and specifications of the laboratory management
  • Participation in test reports in the area of ​​the laboratories
  • Support in the creation of documentation in the area of ​​the quality management manual of the mechanical and thermal systems department
  • Procurement of tools, devices as well as raw, auxiliary and operating materials
  • Test equipment monitoring
  • general laboratory tasks such as measuring, soldering, gluing
  • Assembling multi-layer insulation (MLI) jackets for satellites and payloads (after an appropriate learning phase)

Your qualification:

  • Completed vocational training as a precision mechanic, industrial mechanic, plant mechanic or similar
  • Complementary courses in electrical engineering, control technology, assembly technology
  • Ideally, several years of professional experience in electrical engineering, control technology and assembly technology
  • In-depth knowledge and experience in the design and manufacture of technical devices is desirable
  • Manufacturing of construction elements (turning, milling, forming and joining) advantageous
  • elementary knowledge in construction with CAD required
  • good spoken and written English is an advantage
  • ideally a good understanding of technical and physical relationships
  • good comprehension and fine motor skills welcome
  • PC knowledge (office) advantageous
