Internship: Software development in the field of network simulation

Company Details

DLR Institute of Space Systems in Bremen designs and analyses future spacecraft and space missions (launchers, orbital and exploration systems, and satellites), and assesses them with regard to their technical performance and cost. It applies state-of-the-art methods of multi-disciplinary engineering in system design and analysis

Software development in the field of network simulation

Student in computer science, communication technology, electrical engineering or similar

Your mission:

In the avionics systems department, subsystems for command and data handling (CDH), energy supply and communication are developed that have to meet high reliability requirements. Among other things, robust wireless sensor networks for intra-satellite communication and for use in integration and testing are examined here. Your task is to simulate such networks using appropriate simulation tools. This includes evaluating various protocols and possible uses, as well as analyzing various key performance indicators.

In particular, your tasks include:

  • Creation of simulation models in OMNeT ++ or NS3
  • Focus on 802.15.4 based sensor networks
  • Analysis of various KPIs
  • Evaluation of various protocols, especially in the MAC layer
  • Evaluation of results
  • Test and documentation of the work

Your qualification:

  • Ongoing studies in the field of computer science, electrical engineering, space technology or comparable
  • Sound programming knowledge in C / C ++
  • Knowledge of network simulations and the tool chains to be used
  • Good English knowledge
  • Experience in collaborative software development desirable
  • Experience with the operation of wireless sensor networks is an advantage

Your start:

Look forward to an employer who appreciates your commitment and promotes your development through a wide range of qualification and training opportunities. Our unique work environment offers you design freedom and an incomparable infrastructure in which you can achieve your mission. Compatibility of private life, family and work as well as equal opportunities for people of all genders (m / f / d) are an important part of our personnel policy. We prefer applications from severely disabled people if they are suitably qualified.
