Your mission:

The Institute of Technical Physics develops laser systems for applications in the aerospace industry as well as in the areas of security and defense. At the institute’s locations in Stuttgart and Lampoldshausen, scientists, engineers and technicians work on interdisciplinary issues relating to the main areas of detection and removal of space debris, remote laser detection, laser-based measurement systems for aviation, and long-range laser effectors.

The coherent coupling of semiconductor lasers is investigated as a new concept in the organizational unit “Solid State Lasers and Nonlinear Optics” for laser effectors with a long range. There are two special challenges: on the one hand, a very high number must be coupled due to the low power of individual lasers; on the other hand, the commercially available semiconductor lasers are not optimized for this application – you have to carry out your own development work on the semiconductor lasers.

Tasks include the development and implementation of methods and methods for measuring and regulating the phase as well as work on optimizing the semiconductor laser, in particular with regard to electrical and thermal contacting, beam shaping optics and testing and characterizing such systems.

Your qualification:

  • Completed academic university degree in physics or electrical engineering or similar (diploma / master)
  • Many years of professional experience in the field of semiconductor lasers
  • Many years of professional experience in the processing of semiconductor elements
  • Good knowledge of German, spoken and written, at least at level C1
  • Good written and spoken English knowledge
  • Knowledge in laser physics and optics is desirable
  • Knowledge and experience in a higher programming language are an advantage
