Skyborne is rapidly growing within the Defence and security space to develop and produce aerial robots, both armed and unarmed. The company’s main lines of effort are the optionally-armed Cerberus tri-copter platform, unmanned weapon systems and the Gannet drone.
About the Team
Skyborne’s Research & Development team have various contracts to deliver in the short to medium term. The candidate will be embedded to support the delivery of these important contracts and aid in company growth. The successful candidate will join our R&D team at our office located in Brisbane.
About the role
Reporting to the CTO, the successful applicant will undertake the role of Electronics Engineering Lead and manage a growing team of engineers and technicians.
As the Electronics Lead you can anticipate some of your day-to-day tasks to include:

Oversight of engineering domain of Electronics within the company

Lead the electronics and electrical team of engineers and technicians

Providing strong technical direction within electronics engineering domain

Set project sub-system requirements given a set of higher level mission and functional requirements

Supporting technical vision of the company and its products

Technical leadership to ensure team uses appropriate engineering practices and standards for design, manufacturing and testing

Supports continual improvements to tooling or technical debt

Manage technical scheduling for the electrical engineering domain in JIRA and Confluence software packages
-
Management and oversight of project engineers’ tasks and workload
-
Chair applicable technical domain meetings

Assist with the design and manufacture Printed Circuit Boards required for R&D projects

Conduct/lead electronic design reviews in accordance with the product development process
-
Managing budgets for the R&D projects electronic systems (power and signal)
-
Manage documentation for all electronic designs and systems
-
Take an active part in the whole vehicle design process, adding input where required from an electronics perspective

Local, interstate, and international travel to support field testing and customer demonstrations
-
Manage or delegate parts of the electronics scheduling for active projects

The experience and skillset best suited to this role include:

Bachelor’s degree in one of the following: Electrical Engineering or Mechatronics Engineering

Experience with the Atlassian software suite (JIRA and Confluence)

5+ years industry in an electronics design development team environment

1+ years as a lead in the electronics engineering field

Proven experience in electronics design from concept to production

Proficient use of Altium Designer
-
Passion for innovation and to work in a fast paced but rewarding environment

Ability to focus on specific problems and prioritise tasks in order to deliver best value to the business and stakeholders

Applicants must be an Australian Citizen to meet Defence security requirements

Eligibility and willingness to obtain an Australian Department of Defence security clearance
Additionally, it would be desirable that you have:
-
7+ years industry in an electronics design development team environment
-
3+ years as a lead in the electronics engineering field
-
Proven experience taking part in complex, multi-domain systems from concept to production
-
Exposure to Solidworks Electrical Schematic

Experience with safety-critical design, certification and design to Defence / NATO standards
-
Experience with detonators, initiators and explosives
-
Data analysis capabilities
-
Explosives license
-
Active Australian Department of Defence baseline security clearance
