As a Electrical Power System Lead Engineer, you will lead the development of power system from initial design through mission operations for new and existing vehicles such as our Lunar Lander and Launch Vehicles. You will have ownership of the design, development, analysis, and testing of the power electronics through all phases of development. You will coordinate with key vendors on requirements and deliverables.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design, develop, and trade the power system components for the lander.
  • Ownership through requirements development, design, analysis, component selection, fabrication, and activation of lander power systems.
  • Perform failure mode and worst-case analysis.
  • Perform package-level sneak circuit analysis.
  • Maintain vehicle-level power system performance metrics including power and energy consumption budgets, mass budgets, and vehicle power-on sequencing and safing.
  • Develop schematics, layouts, bills of materials, test plans and procedures.
  • Specific projects include but are not limited to:
  • Switch mode power supply design
  • Rechargeable space power systems and modeling
  • Solenoid valve and actuator drive electronics assemblies
  • Power conditioning distribution electronics
  • Flight termination batteries
  • Main vehicle batteries
  • Familiarity with solar panel/battery power systems a plus
  • Use engineering principles and fundamentals to provide novel solutions for technically challenging problems.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or related engineering discipline.
    5+ years of focused, hands on experience in Power Systems Design.
    Ability to think conceptually and understand how power electronics designs integrate into the vehicle system.
    Direct experience in electronics parts selection, able to perform technical and cost trade studies, and fully understand electrical, electronic and electromechanical parts an materials applications, qualification and acceptance.

Desired

  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Experience in the development of space-qualified electronics hardware from development through flight qualification.
  • 5+ year(s) of experience with design tools such as Altium, Xpedition, and circuit simulation software.
  • 10 years of experience with hands-on troubleshooting of electronic hardware
  • Fluent in electronic hardware design and analysis tools
  • Competence with laboratory test equipment including multimeters, oscilloscopes, network analyzers, and spectrum analyzers
  • Experience with EMI design and test
  • Able to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure fast-paced environment.
