As a Turbomachinery Engineer you will own turbomachinery hardware through its full lifecycle from design, development, qualification, and production support. In this role you will leverage your strong technical knowledge in a hands-on role to design and refine our turbomachinery systems across multiple engines – either working on new designs or improving the performance, production efficiency, and reliability of existing systems. You will report directly to the Director of Propulsion and work as part of fast-paced and growing team.


  • Own and lead the development of our clean-sheet, Miranda turbopump. Beginning with design through build/integration and testing.
  • Support the design and build of turbopump test stand to support Miranda development.
  • Serve as a mentor for the turbomachinery engineers and providing technical guidance and leadership
  • Generate, review, and/or update the mechanical and fluids analysis on all turbopump components and systems.
  • Lead designs for turbomachinery components and systems including models, drawings, and assembly instructions.
  • Ensure detailed layouts and tolerance stack-ups are correct and possible with manufacturing processes (and/or develop processes to do so).
  • Works with manufacturing engineers to ensure proper build and assembly of components and systems
  • Support the build, integration, and test of hardware.
  • Works closely with supporting propulsion engineering teams to optimize turbopump integration and minimize any risks across the engine.
  • Evaluates nonconforming conditions by analyzing, developing, and providing dispositions for dev, production, test and post-production and consider all impacts to design requirements, safety, quality, cost, and schedule.
  • Support both component and assembly testing. Be involved with defining test configuration, test execution, and post-test data review.
  • Owns and lead the resolution of all issues encountered with the turbopump during test.
  • Identifies and owns the development of design and/or manufacturing improvements (cost, lead time, reliability)



  • BS in Mechanical, Aerospace Engineering, or related engineering discipline
  • Exceptional understanding of engineering fundamentals in fluid mechanics, heat transfer, and structural analysis.
  • Experience with turbomachinery and high-speed rotating equipment – including rotordynamics, turbine and pump performance, impeller design, and turbomachinery failure modes
  • Ability to develop and maintain analytical models for turbomachinery hardware
    CAD and/or FEA modelling experience designing turbomachinery components.
  • Proficiency in GD&T and assessing fit and clearances


  • MS or PhD degree in related engineering discipline
  • Hands-on/test experience with turbomachinery components and/or systems
  • Understanding of engine fundamentals in rocket engine cycles and combustion devices.
  • Familiarity with common turbopump elements including rotating seals, high speed bearings, interpropellant seals, etc…
  • Experience with cryogenic fluids and ox compatibility.
  • Ability to evaluate turbomachinery performance and design secondary / network flow models
  • Experience with high speed data acquisition, instrumentation, and data analysis methods (familiarity with accelerometers, proximity probes, etc..)
  • Familiarity with presenting trade studies, risks, schedules, requirements, and budget to program management and leadership
  • Knowledge in CFD analysis and flow network codes
