At Avio Aero, a GE Aerospace Business unit, we’ve been reimagining the power of flight for more than 100 years. We are specialized in the design, production and maintenance of components and systems for both the civil and military aviation.

The Lifing Engineer will be a member of the Engineering Material Systems within the Lifing and Additive Materials team, in tight collaboration with the Advanced Technologies Operations Team, you will support and will participate and lead life methods development and life management of military applications for both new and fielded engine programs. Focus will be dedicated to the development of suitable methodologies to evaluate the life and structural strength of additive structures.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities  

  • Execution and leadership of tasks with a primary focus area of life methods for military applications.
  • Development and execution of lifing method suitable for additive Components
  • Execute life management activities for military engines.
  • Collaborate with GE Aviation design communities in the development of life methods and life management approaches for Avio Aero components.
  • Participate in technology road-mapping and competitive assessment working with business leaders to initiate and drive new technology programs in computational or experimental methods for the design and lifing of engine components.
  • Provide technical guidance and direction across the group to grow overall technical capability and product knowledge in technical focus areas.
  • Develop and maintain strategic relationships with both internal and external organizations to accelerate and expand the ability to deliver new technology in primary focus areas to our business customers.
  • Serve as a technical expert to resolve short term high risk technical issues in technical focus areas.


  • Master’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace Engineering, or related discipline with proved experience in an industrial environment.
  • Experience in applied fracture mechanics and damage model development.
  •  Experience in developing life prediction models and methods.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work across all functions/departments as part of a team.
  • Work Visa, in accordance with local regulation, is required.

Desired Characteristics

  • Green belt or Black Belt certification and/or Statistics knowledge.
  • Domain knowledge in gas turbine design and gas turbine lifing technologies.
