To solve these problems, we need to employ advanced techniques such as machine learning, artificial intelligence and broad statistical analysis to make sense of the wide range of data available to provide deep analysis to our clients.

GMV NSL is looking for an Earth Observation Engineer who will work within the wider Earth Observation and Geospatial Analytics division group in GMV’s Space sector. Previous clients that our division has worked with include the World Bank, European Space Agency and the European Commission. This role at GMV NSL will focus on working with vast EO datasets such as data acquired from the ESA Copernicus program, and developing algorithms to help insight into them. In this role you will utilize and develop skills in machine learning and deep learning techniques in order to interpret satellite data sources

  • Develop applications to process large quantities of remote sensing data and extract meaningful statistics from within.
  • Work with a multidisciplinary team to implement algorithms to solve specific problems within a diverse range of projects.
  • Create visualizations to present the projects in a clear to understand fashion that satisfies the client’s requirements.

DO YOU WANT TO BE PART OF OUR TEAM?

If you want this position to be yours, we would like you to have the following knowledge/experience:

  • A Bachelor’s or Masters or PHD Degree in Computer Science/ Physics/ Mathematics/ Engineering or relevant work experience.
  • Strong background in Python, including a strong understanding of the core numerical processing libraries in Python (Numpy, Scipy).
  • Good understanding of version control systems such as Git/Subversion.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team Excellent numeracy and statistical analysis skills Excellent written and oral communication skills in English
  • Good knowledge of Earth Observation data.
  • Experience in using satellite data for remote sensing applications.
  • Previous experience working with geospatial processing libraries such as GDAL/ rasterio.
  • Previous experience in working with computer vision libraries such as OpenCV/Scikit-Image.
  • Good understanding of containerization tools such as Docker.
  • Good understanding of GIS software such as QGIS or ArcGIS.
  • Understanding of machine learning techniques and relevant libraries such as Scikit-Learn with previous professional experience being particularly valuable.
  • Ability to travel within European countries no more than 3 to 4 days at a time.
