The Starship Avionics Ship Team is responsible for cradle to grave ownership of Ship avionics from build, checkouts, launch, recovery and re-flight. This includes development of components, system architecture, maintenance, and troubleshooting of various avionics subsystems including power distribution, vehicle network, onboard sensors, actuators, compute, RF, and video.  This individual contributor role is a Responsible Engineer (RE) for a component design and owns that component’s role in the larger vehicle system. Located in Starbase, this team designs new hardware adjacent to build and operations of current hardware to have tight feedback loops on design. As we accelerate build and launch cadence, this team will need to drive reliability increases while improving design, production, and operational efficiency by engaging with a cross-functional team of engineers.  Come join the team that brings 21st century electronics to the the largest rocket ever built .


  • Provide extreme ownership of avionics hardware for flight across all areas of the product life cycle through kick off, requirements capture, design reviews, environmental testing, vehicle integration, and flight.
  • Troubleshoot avionics hardware spanning PCBA board testing and defect detection, full functional testing of an assembled unit, and resolving on-vehicle anomalies
  • Drive changes to electrical schematics and mechanical drawings that improve reliability and manufacturability
  • Develop high reliability hardware to expand vehicle capabilities while decreasing mass and cost of system
  • Design test setups and execute hands on hardware validation through benchtop and environmental testing
  • Derive engineering justification to resolve production issues throughout assembly, test, and vehicle integration


  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering field, science, or math
  • 1+ years of experience in electronics hardware design including academic projects, internships, and professional experience


  • Self-motivated with strong organizational, written, and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, autonomously driven, and demanding atmosphere
  • Circuit design, PCB layout, new design bring up, and failure analysis
  • Experience with schematic and layout in Altium or similar PCBA design tools
  • Design for manufacturing, manufacturing process development and quality initiatives
  • Competence with electrical test equipment (multimeters, oscilloscopes, power supplies, etc.)
  • Writing software in Python for analysis or data review


  • Extended hours and weekend work frequently required to support critical project and mission milestones
  • Position located in Starbase Texas adjacent Brownsville Texas. Travel to other SpaceX facilities may be intermittently required
