Job Description

Position Summary

As a DFX (Design for Manufacturing) Engineer, you will be responsible for evaluating designs for manufacturability and leading the development of new products into production. The ideal candidate will have skills in analyzing user requirements, mechanical and tool design, as well as manufacturing cell layout. A DFX Engineer will have a direct impact in creating solutions for the complexities that impact the final quality, cost and delivery of our products.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordination with design engineering to ensure the production viability of new designs, creation of the required documentation, and internal and customer approval for this documentation

  • Develop manufacturing processes and equipment at the factory drive line for new product development with manufacturing responsibility from order receipt thru product qualification – line layout optimization and balancing, throughput requirements, fixture requirements and development, critical dimensions and requirements assembly

  • Solving manufacturing problems, investigating process failures and implementing corrective actions

  • Interface with production personnel including operators, quality inspectors, and shop floor supervisors

  • Implementation of Lean Methodologies including standard work, point of use tooling, material presentation and process improvements

  • Provides production support engineering with respect to technically complex assembly procedures, testing methods and failure analysis

  • Consulted on Process Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (PFMEA)

  • Assist Manufacturing Engineer with Technical compliance and risk assessment

  • Partner with Manufacturing Engineer and Design Engineer for coordination of project related technical tasks

Required Experience, Skills and Education:

  • US Person (US Citizen or Permanent Resident)

  • BS/MS in an engineering discipline, preferably mechanical engineering or manufacturing engineering

  • 5+ years of project, manufacturing or related engineering experience in multi-part mechanisms and mechanical assemblies

  • Design and application of electromechanical actuators

  • Knowledge of space vehicle mechanisms and systems

  • SolidWorks experience is required. Must be capable of creating 3-D parts, assembly models, drawings and complete GD&T

  • Experience with the design of tooling/fixtures/work aids for production assembly and environmental testing of space components

  • Design for Manufacturing methods and techniques

  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills with demonstrated ability to lead programs / projects.

  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems

  • Established project management skills with the ability to document, plan, market, and execute programs

  • Experienced in low volume high mix, developmental level procurement in a collaborative, fast paced, team environment

  • Understanding of Continuous Improvement, Lean Manufacturing practices and in-depth understanding ERP/MRP planning systems

  • Strong skills in MS Windows – Excel, Word and Power-point.  Familiar with and able to work in MS Project
