Description

NOTE ON LOCATION: Position is Remote, Office-Based (Carlsbad, CA) or Hybrid (Carlsbad, CA / remote)

Hydrosat is a data analytics and satellite Earth observation company leveraging thermal infrared and multi-spectral data to deliver insights into crop health, drought and wildfire risk, industrial activity, and defense situational awareness to government and commercial customers.

We are seeking an experienced DevOps engineer to support the development of new tools to create science-quality surface reflectance and land surface temperature analysis-ready data from Hydrosat’s Earth observation constellation. This role will appeal to candidates that are looking to use their software engineering and devops skills to make an impact on the world in agriculture, climate, and public safety applications. The right candidate will have a strong desire to help our software engineers and data scientists build and deploy software that makes a tangible impact in the world.

What you’ll do:

  • Partner with our team of data scientists and software engineers to develop and implement “cloud-native” solutions that support processing and analysis of earth observation data at large scale.
  • Collaborate with the team in the development of automated software engineering systems that drive efficiency and lower manual efforts, making the team and product more effective
  • Help identify potential development bottlenecks and roadblocks, addressing them before they slow progress
  • Manage software integration and deployment processes, including containerization and deploying containers within orchestration environments
  • Ensure security and reliability of core systems
  • Help deploy and maintain supporting systems like online documentation, collaboration tools, and metrics dashboards
  • Support a multi-organizational system engineering effort to develop the ground segment for an advanced earth observation satellite constellation
  • Work with payload and operations teams to ensure timely and reliable delivery of data products to customers
  • Clearly communicate enhancement opportunities and development risks to the rest of the team

Requirements

  • US Citizen or Permanent Resident
  • Technical background in DevOps, SRE, or software engineering
  • 5+ years of relevant hands-on DevOps experience supporting data science or large-scale data processing applications
  • Python experience
  • Extensive experience with core AWS services – EC2, S3, Batch, Step Functions, IAM, ECS, Lambda, VPC, etc.
  • Experience deploying containerized processing at scale within commercial cloud environments
  • Experience supporting CI/CD (Github and Gitlab) and establishing best practices with development teams
  • Experience with the full software development lifecycle, particularly test and delivery
  • Knowledge of cloud security standards and best practices
  • Strong first principles thinking and decision making
  • Strong team player with demonstrated ability to take ownership and drive execution

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience with geospatial software
  • Experience supporting large scale image processing applications in earth observation, astronomy, medical imaging, or other field.
  • Experience successfully applying DevSecOps practices
