In-Space Missions Ltd is a small space mission and spacecraft service provider based in Alton, Hampshire. The company was formed in August 2015 and has grown since then, building a team of experienced Space industry professionals to support large and small Industrial partners, government agencies and academic institutions. In 2018 In-Space also announced its “Faraday” service – the first European commercial payload hosting service for which the first spacecraft, Faraday-1, was launched in July 2020, followed by a large development contract with the European Space Agency for development of the next generation Faraday service and the launch of Faraday-Phoenix in June 2021.

ROLE OVERVIEW

This is an exciting role which will suit an enthusiastic, self-starting individual who is interested in applications of space technology, service design, delivery and improvement. It will require assisting with elements of service architecture, service design and service delivery management, all of which will require close liaison with the ground segment, operations and system engineering teams to ensure the mission requirements are met.

The successful candidate will be comfortable working as part of a team to deliver services to a variety of customers including institutional, academic and commercial organisations They will be willing to flex their priorities to support others where necessary and will be comfortable with a fast-paced environment. It will require someone who takes pride in their work, and can present a professional face to clients, suppliers and partners.

The role requires logical thinking, numerical fluency, and an interest in how to make space services work for customers. It will require a relevant technical background, a willingness to learn and the ability to work with others to identify and resolve technical issues. Some experience of service design and service delivery management would be advantageous, but the right attitude is equally as important as background and experience and support and training will be provided as appropriate to the experience of the successful candidate.

While the primary responsibilities of the role lie in supporting the design and delivery of spacecraft and spacecraft data services, the role may require some bid support and other reasonable responsibilities as required by the business. You will be actively encouraged to maintain a current interest in space industry developments and are expected to pro-actively identify business/technology promotion opportunities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities will include:

  • Producing dashboards and reports on service metrics and KPIs to validate that we are delivering services to a high standard and within contractual obligations
  • Logging and tracking actions through to completion
  • Updating existing process documents to reflect agreed changes and communicating changes to stakeholders
  • Ensuring process documents are reviewed on schedule
  • Administration and configuration of service management software (JIRA) including user on-boarding, project admin, updating fields, workflows and automation rules
  • Troubleshooting issues with service management software (JIRA)
  • Contributing to user documentation and producing training materials for customers and internal users of service software
  • Administration of service CMDB (Configuration Management Database)
  • Assistance with service forecasting, budget estimation and comparison with actuals
  • Supporting quality improvement initiatives for the business and services
  • Keeping stakeholders informed of progress and issues
  • Identifying opportunities for improving the customer experience, reducing costs or increasing efficiency

You will report into the Space Services Manager and your work will be prioritized in discussion with them.

EDUCATION AND/ OR EXPERIENCE REQUIRMENTS

  • Educated to at least A-level or equivalent in STEM based subjects is essential; or a suitable mixture of academic qualifications and experience.
  • Proven ability to work well as a member of a team.
  • Experience in or knowledge of the following areas is required:
    • Problem solving
    • Logical thinking
    • Viewing problems from multiple user perspectives
    • Communicating with customers or stakeholders
    • Working with numbers
  • Experience in or knowledge of some of the following areas would be advantageous but is not essential as training will be provided:
    • ITIL v3 or v4
    • Scripting, px`rogramming, or markup languages (eg: Python, HTML, RegEx, JSON, SQL)
    • Microsoft Visio
    • Business Process Modelling Notation
    • Atlassian JIRA
    • Working as part of a service team
    • Space Industry

 Skills:

  • Proficient with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Project);
  • Excellent communicator, both written and verbal;
  • Confident in using web based software tools;
  • Confident working in project delivery and bid teams.
