Job Description

Primary Role Purpose:

The Senior Project Manager (SPM) will be an experienced project professional providing project management leadership for a Space Based Augmentation System (SBAS) project with the Australian Government. The SPM will be part of an exciting and growing team of highly competent project and engineering professionals to deliver the project and capability. The SPM will be the primary point of contact on the Project with the Customer and Inmarsat CTO Team. They will pro-actively manage the project to meet the budgets and timescales set by the Master Schedule and provide Earned-Value performance reporting to internal and external stakeholders. The candidate is also expected to write and maintain project management plans as well as managing project risk and contract change.

This is a full-time role based in Sydney but will involve flexible home/office working. The candidate is expected to travel occasionally for this role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the project team to meet schedule and budgetary requirements as defined by the management plans and project schedule
    • Provide the Programme Director and Customer with weekly and monthly reports and KPI status on project performance
    • Generate project plans (PMP, RMP, WBS, OBS etc.) to support project execution
    • Chair monthly and quarterly progress reviews with the CTO team and Customer
    • Focal point of contact between Inmarsat CTO Team and the Customer, developing and maintaining healthy relationships across all parties
    • Management of project sub-contracts from issue of RFP to delivery of the product or service
    • Identifying resource required for the project and flagging resource constraints/challenges to the Programme Director
    • Lead on risk management, hold regular risk reviews and take necessary actions to mitigate risk
    • Develop Earned Value reporting metrics (CPI, SPI, CV, SV) to support programme reporting
    • Working with contracts and legal teams to review and agree contract terms and conditions
    • Empowering and inspiring others to deliver successful outcomes for the project
    • Maintaining and applying quality and configuration management processes for project activities and outputs
    • Working to the Inmarsat G2 Strategic Programmes delivery frameworks/methodology

To be responsible for health, safety and security of the project team in accordance with Inmarsat policies.

Qualifications

Essential Knowledge and Skills:
• 5-7 years’ minimum experience working in a project / programme management role within Satellite Navigation or space / defence, ideally on Australian Defence or Space programmes
• Must be degree educated in engineering discipline (mechanical, space, computer science, or similar)
• Project delivery experience using industry standard methodologies and project manager tools
• Demonstrable leadership experience of teams in a challenging environment
• Ability to produce project documentation such as PMP and RMP
• Understanding of Earned-Value Management methods and principles
• Highly organised, detail oriented and self-motivated
• Collaborative mind-set and strong interpersonal skills
• Ability to remain positive in high pressure and stressful situations
• Critical thinking, communication, and relationship-building skills
• Flexible / resourceful approach, independent problem solver
• Confident and articulate with senior leaders
• Working knowledge of MS Office packages as well as Project Server, MS Project and SharePoint.

Desirable Knowledge and Skills:
• Satellite Navigation / GNSS, Space Augmentation experience
• Certified in APM, PRINCE2, Agile, PMI, PMBOK or similar Project Management establishments
