Post and missions

The candidate will have to ensure the start-up, the adjustments, and the conduct of the astronomical observations as well as the monitoring of the NOEMA interferometer. He / She will interact both with the scientific teams who use the instrument’s data and the technical teams who maintain it.

General conditions of employment

  • Place of exercise: Plateau de Bure (05) – NOEMA Observatory. Lodged and fed on site
  • Work in an isolated environment and at altitude (2550 meters) in periods of 7 days
  • Work organization in 1 week / 3 week cycle
  • Autonomous work within a small team

Main activities

  • Use software applications for adjusting and controlling the interferometer.
  • Monitor the correct operation of the installation and carry out the appropriate checks
  • Detect malfunctions, participate in diagnostics and troubleshooting
  • Ensure the safety of the instrument according to climatic conditions
  • Ensure the security watch of the site

Other activities

  • Participate in collective activities (testing new equipment, moving telescopes on their tracks, …)
  • Welcome the public during visits to the observatory

Required profile

  • DUT physical measurement or equivalent, or experience in a similar position (physical measurement, scientific instrumentation, …)
  • Minimum 2 years experience desired
  • Category B driving license required
  • IT: logic programming bases (Fortran, C, python, MATLAB type, …), use of command line interface
  • Good oral / written communication
  • English level A2 (Elementary) or higher
