Ispace Japan is seeking a highly motivated Payload Systems Engineer to join its team developing lunar exploration systems. The ideal candidate will have broad experience in the system engineering process of spacecraft and good technical knowledge of multiple spacecraft subsystems. This is a unique opportunity to join the first stage of ispace’s plans to perform resource prospecting on the moon. In this position, you will assigned to one or more of ispace’s projects, supporting our payload customers. Candidates with demonstrated “hands-on” experience in some engineering domains and experience working in all phases of engineering, from requirements elicitation, to design and manufacturing are preferred. Experience interfacing to vendors or payload customers is required.

The main responsibilities of this position are developing requirements, interface control documents, test procedures etc, with payload customers and coordinating with other ispace engineers to support payload customers. The ideal candidate can also work directly in mechanical CAD software to develop and maintain mechanical interface components and mechanisms.

Key Responsibilities

  • Developing requirements, interface control documents, test procedures, etc, with payload customers
  • Coordinating with other engineers to support payload customers and develop electrical, mechanical and other interfaces
  • Developing mechanical interfaces including design for manufacturing

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor or Masters degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace Engineering or equivalent
  • Experience in mechanical or structural engineering including design for manufacturing
  • 5+ years of experience engineering within the aerospace industry or equivalent
  • Experience working with outside vendors or customers
  • Excellent documentation skills
  • Working level in English

Preferable Requirements

  • Experience in project management
  • Mechanical CAD and mechanical design for manufacturing
  • Experience performing FMECA, reliability analysis, and/or hazard analysis
  • Experience in requirements management for spacecraft systems
  • Familiarity with spacecraft design and test standards: ECSS, MIL-STD, or similar
  • Familiarity with several aerospace disciplines
  • Conversational level in Japanese
