This job is to lead the in-house development of navigation sensors (IMU, cameras, 3D sensors, Radar, Lidar etc) and specification, selection, and procurement of other sensors at ispace, inc.
The ideal candidate has demonstrated experience choosing, customizing and testing a variety of navigation sensors.
The job includes all phases of development from module selection to customization for the specific mechanical, thermal and electrical requirements of ispace’s miniaturized rovers and spacecraft, as well as integration and validation. The responsibilities include interfacing with contractors and choosing which core skills and processes should be performed inside ispace. Understanding of the current market as well as being able to chart the technology roadmap is a must. Strong interpersonal skills to perform well within the team and understand the implications of one’s personal work in the scope of the team’s goals is a daily requirement.
This position is part of the electronics group or GNC (Guidance, Navigation and Control) group. In either case, close cooperation with ispace’s software, structure, thermal and communication experts is expected. The overall philosophy is milestone based with short development cycles.
- Lead product definition, specification and requirements phases for sensors, modules, electrical interfaces, data interfaces with the rest of the system
- Collect the thermal, mechanical, electrical, software, scientific and business and operational requirements and optimize the capabilities of the sensors
- Research, design and prototype innovative combinations of vision sensors so that they can be included in the next rover mission architecture
- Create and improve standardized testing environments for lander navigation sensor validation
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, optronics, or equivalent
- In-depth knowledge and 5+ years of experience working with navigation sensors and electrical systems
- On-site navigation sensor testing skill
- Strong communication skills : everybody is expected to share his/her methodology, goals and success criteria before, during and after implementation
- Relocate to Japan is needed.
- Master’s degree or higher
- Space industry, automotive or other high reliability industry or academic experience
- Experience with Camera Serial Interface-2 (CSI-2), MIPI, Ethernet, USB and muxing multiple camera together to one D-PHY (eg: camera bridge chip or FPGA)
- Demonstrated knowledge of camera lenses and filters
- Experience writing drivers for navigation sensors
- Experience with software or hardware video compression techniques or video streaming techniques
- Understanding of spacecraft navigation algorithm design
