The Opportunity

You will manage the RF Hardware Engineering team at LeoLabs. You will lead and be accountable for the highly technical team of RF, electrical, mechanical, systems, and embedded software engineers designing and developing LeoLabs’ growing portfolio of radar systems. Your work is critical to the growth of our core technologies and will entail clearly defining and managing the priorities of the team, understanding the schedule and product roadmap, and ensuring the team is properly and sustainably resourced.

We are looking for a Hardware Engineering Manager who has demonstrated team leadership. You will need to provide deep technical expertise in defining, developing, verifying, handing to production highly reliable radar systems and components.

The position requires a technical background and familiarity with Mechanical and Electrical design.  Preferably a degree in Engineering (mechanical or electrical).

You must have good communication skills and be able to coordinate schedule conflicts with other group leaders in the company. A personable and accommodative nature is desirable. You will report to the Director of Radar Deployments.

Responsibilities in the Role:

  • Develop the framework to track team resource loading used to better inform timeframes and schedule and a hiring plan
  • Manage the day to day priorities of team
  • Ensure your team has the context, capabilities, and resources to deliver on the product roadmap
  • You are expected to be able to dive deep in the details while also operating at a higher level of abstraction, being able to articulate strategy with the team and details with management.
  • Ensure engineering best practices and internal development processes are followed for the full development stream from requirements to system architecture to circuit design, component evaluation, design reviews, prototyping, testing and characterization, and moving into manufacturing.
  • Collaborate with other teams, including software engineering and data science, product management, leadership, and recruiting


  • 3+ years of experience in project management and managing an electrical engineering team, with a strong technical background
  • Expertise in understanding the design and prototyping engineering process.
  • Experience managing distributed and hybrid teams
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proven ability to coordinate development efforts across multiple stakeholders
  • Able to proactively task manage, forecast a development plan, and work to a plan adapting as necessary in a rapidly evolving environment.

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience designing aerospace systems
  • Experience working with RF applications

Within 1 month, you’ll:

  • Complete our onboarding program designed to get you up to speed on our business, vision and team
  • Gain an understanding about how your role fits into LeoLabs broader organization
  • Learn about our existing projects and product roadmap
  • Come up to speed on how the hardware team is currently operating

Within 3 months, you’ll:

  • Gain an understanding of the team dynamic and project timeframes
  • Actively managing the team schedule and resource management
  • Build plan to grow the team to meet development priorities and timeframes
  • Help facilitate adding process and procedure to team structure

Within 6 months, you’ll:

  • Actively have project managed a new system into the production phase
  • Actively working to grow the team to meet company goals and objectives
  • Have built out the process and procedures necessary to grow the team effectively

Within 12 months, you’ll:

  • Have grown the team to a sustainable size to meet our product schedules and development goals
  • Have managed to move multiple projects into the production phase of development
