Reinventing In-Space Logistics and Infrastructure. Lúnasa Space is a UK-based space-tech start-up with a mission to accelerate sustainable, reliable, and affordable in-space logistics and infrastructure. The company is developing an innovative, dual-stage, and reusable in-space satellite servicing vehicle to provide very affordable access to space for SmallSats through rideshare and last-mile transportation, and ultimately services such as active debris removal, End-of-Life services, life extension, and advanced payload inspection in Earth orbits and beyond.
With a team of over 40 years of developing space technology experience, Lúnasa intends to de-risk its intelligent visual-based guidance, navigation, and control (GNC) system for rendezvous proximity operations and docking (RPOD) on-orbit by early 2024.
Location: Hybrid – Harwell Campus, Atlas Bldg., Didcot, and remote.
Salary: £40,000 – £55,000 (depending on prior experience).

Lúnasa is seeking a Systems Engineer to join our growing team. Satellite Systems Engineer will be part of the overall technical team responsible for the delivery of the satellite and mission. The candidate will fill a key position, shaping and designing the satellite and the mission, actively working in collaboration with other members of the technical team and report to the project manager.
The Systems Engineer will take responsibility not only in the design of the satellite but also all the interaction with the subcontractors during design, build, and test stages of the satellite.
Key Skills and Experience:
- At least 3 years of experience in design of LEO satellites.
- A good understanding of system budget including but not limited to budget studies related to mass, link, pointing, power, and thermal. As the systems engineer has the ultimate responsibility of all budgets, the candidate has to be vigilant and has to keep track of all changes and impacts on overall system budgets.
- A good understanding of the overall satellite design; the interaction of the subsystems and overall impact of changes of one particular subsystem to the overall design.
- Understanding of the satellite subsystems including but not limited to; attitude and orbit control subsystems, thermal, power, on board data handling, RF, propulsion, structural, harness, EMC/EMI and grounding concepts; space environments including radiation environment.
- A good understanding of mission design.
- Good planning skills to support project management activities.
- A good understanding of writing the requirements, managing the requirements and flow down through overall system.
- Familiarity with ECSS standards.
- Excellent technical communication and presentation skills (written/verbal).
- A basic knowledge of using STK (Systems Tool Kit) or equivalent software.
- A basic knowledge of MATLAB/Simulink package.
- Should not yield under stress and should produce results during difficult situations.

Education and work experience:
