Job summary:
We are looking for an experienced, confident leader who has held a senior position before and displays a strong balance of technical acumen, management skills, and stakeholder management skills. As a Head of AOCS/GNC Engineering, the role and responsibilities are as below. For the AOCS/GNC, at the beginning, you will strongly support the AOCS and GNC subsystem Leads that are people from your Team assigned to the program.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Supervising the output from their Team to reach defined objectives.
  • Interfacing between the Executive Management and their Team.
  • Allocating teams and resources to Programs and internal activities.
  • Defining and bidding for funding opportunities to support internal activities.
  • Be involved with hiring, onboarding, and developing new staff.
  • Defining and developing internal technologies and technical building blocks within the domain.
  • Establishing roadmaps, and maximising opportunities to follow them within funding opportunities.
Essential Experience:
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in AOCS and GNC.
  • Deep understanding of AOCS/GNC algorithm design e.g. navigation filters, guidance strategies and controllers.
  • Experience designing fault-tolerant AOCS and GNC systems e.g. fault-tolerant algorithm/software design.
  • Knowledge and experience of AOCS/GNC rendezvous and pose estimation sensors, actuators, and methods.
  • Experience of satellite trajectory design and analysis e.g. passively safe trajectories, abort manoeuvres and collision avoidance manoeuvres.
  • Experience of AOCS and GNC hardware integration and test planning, as well as rapid prototyping of Hardware-in-the-loop systems.
  • Experience with software packages commonly used e.g. MATLAB/Simulink, Python, C++
  • Demonstrates excellent leadership experience.
  • Be able to work in a start-up environment.
  • Excellent technical communications skills (written/verbal).

Education and work experience:

The ideal candidate must have a relevant degree in Engineering disciplines.
