LyteLoop Technologies LLC is a space company that will utilize the power of ultra-high bandwidth lasers to store massive amounts of data in space. Since 2015, LyteLoop has been assembling a team and obtaining patents for its plan to move data in an endless loop between satellites, taking up less space and using less electricity than traditional, terrestrial solutions. The company has developed a photonic method of data storage which puts data in a constant state of perpetual motion. LyteLoop’s storage in motion technique will transform how data is stored while providing a myriad of unique and customizable advantages including substantial power savings, unique cyber security advantages and more.

In order to develop its innovative ideas, Lyteloop is looking to expand its R&D team by adding a Senior Research Associate: Optical Coherent Communication based in our Great Neck, NY location. The role will serve as an optical signal processing and optical communications Subject Matter Expert for our team.

The successful candidate will:

  • Define and drive the implementation of a proprietary transceiver technology concept
  • Design, simulate and implement energy-efficient digital coherent optical systems and sub-systems for high data rate communications
  • Be the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for all things related to quadrature modulation, channel noise estimation, coherent receiver front-end, phase and carrier recovery
  • Discuss innovative optical solutions with the engineering team to overcome challenges in optical communication systems and networks

The following skills and experiences are required:

  • PhD + at least 3 years of experience or MSc + 5 years of R&D experience in photonics
  • Well-versed in the design and fabrication of optical transceivers for coherent communications systems
  • Proficiency in FPGA programing and ASIC design
  • Proficiency in modeling Photonic Integrated Circuit PIC devices (Lumerical)
  • Expert knowledge of most Forward-Error-Correction FEC algorithms
  • Hands-on experience in implementing DSP algorithms in coherent optical systems and subsystems
  • Excellent laboratory experience with characterization of optical communications systems

The following skills and experiences are preferred:

  • 7+ years of experience in Industry developing high-speed transceivers. Similar experience with a proven track record of high-quality research in the field will also be considered.
  • Experience with 7-nm CMOS platform is a plus.
  • Experience with nonlinear optics and/or all-optical signal processing
  • Working proficiency with Matlab, Python
