Roccor is growing fast and expanding our product portfolio with electrical power system solutions. To support this, Roccor is hiring for a Battery Test Engineer position to aid in coordinating testing efforts for battery development and program deliverables. This role will support our battery projects through all phases of test, including development of test requirements and plans, test methods and equipment, and execution. The ideal candidate will have prior experience in the space sector, with an emphasis on experience with electrical power systems and battery technology.

Job Description

  • Develop, plan, assemble, and maintain special purpose instrumentation, cable and wiring assemblies, laboratory test equipment, and fixtures related to testing of battery assemblies and related components.
  • Collect and analyze test data on prototype power and energy storage systems to inform recommendations on revisions to product or component design as needed.
  • Develop and manage project test plans, including test requirements and their verification methods through close collaboration with the Systems and Design Engineering teams.
    Plan and perform environmental qualification and testing of hardware, including functional testing, safety testing, life testing, vibration testing, thermal cycling, thermal vacuum, and other qualification tests.
  • Perform root cause analysis of test failures and recommend corrective actions to project team.
  • Communication and collaboration with various areas of the business, such as technicians, product and technical leadership, and program managers.

Required Competencies

  • BS in an Engineering related discipline
  • Minimum 2 years of related industry experience
  • Experience handling and testing hardware design for space environments.
  • Knowledge of the fundamental principles electrical energy storage devices, and experience handling and testing battery systems.
  • Hands-on electrical systems debugging experience.
  • Experience in design, fabrication, assembly, and implementation of GSE for test setups.
  • US Citizen or Green Card holder (Visa sponsorship not accepted).

Desired Skills

  • Preferred candidates have demonstrated experience through a successful battery development and integration project through the processes of qualification and acceptance test.
  • Experience with data management & analysis tools such as python, MatLab, SQL, and / or VBA.
  • Experience with battery test equipment, such as Arbin or Maccor (Arbin preferred).
  • Experience with measurement techniques, sensor technologies, and data collection devices.
  • Experience using CAD to design and fabricate mechanical systems and / or mechanisms.
  • Experience and training in safe handling protocols for flight hardware and battery systems
