SENIOR SOFTWARE DEVELOPER, Kavli Institute for Astrophysics and Space Research, to oversee and where necessary redesign of the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) Payload Operations Center (POC) and Payload Data Operations (PDO) custom and vendor-supplied software suites. Will ensure long-term stability and utility of both the operations pipeline and science data processing pipeline. Will also be involved with the development of software code and participate in software reviews. Will oversee POC code development to ensure long-term stability, reliability, and resilience of operations and PDO code development to ensure both long-term robustness and adaptability to future science use cases while maintaining the core exoplanet discovery responsibilities of the mission; develop ground software code as needed; and participate in software review and approval activities. Other Responsibilities include contributing to planning for associated technical infrastructure, participating in development exercises for future mission operations, identifying and incorporating development and execution best practices and appropriate NASA standards; and perform other duties as needed.
REQUIRED: B.Sc. or its equivalent in computer science or a related field; advanced-level Python programming experience; experience with PostgreSQL and advanced Linux command line features; experience using git for development and code management; and the ability to work in a team-based environment across all levels and to communicate collaboratively at the highest technical levels.
PREFERRED: background in software architecture; experience with Shell programming; experience with NASA software requirements and organizational engagement or other government equivalent; familiarity with C, C++, and/or CUDA for GPU implementations; familiarity with ZFS; and an interest in machine learning and/or cloud computing; and an interest or background in astrophysics.
