Supporting all of MDA’s three business areas in Geointelligence, Robotics & Space Operations, the Defence Space Advisor reports to the MDA Senior Director, Defence Strategy. In this role you will:

• Act as the MDA Space Advisor embedded in the Canadian Joint Operations Command (CJOC) Headquarters in the Canada Space Operations Centre (CANSpOC), responsive to the Director of CANSpOC.   Candidate will work 3 days of the week in both the DND unclassified and classified environments with significant periods in the Top Secret classified domain.
• The MDA Space Advisor will provide an MDA commercial view supporting formulation of space policy, support DND operations with information on MDA Space missions both present and future, and support CANSpOC internal operational briefings and external engagements such as the US-led Schriever Wargames.

Qualifications: 

• 10+ years of experience in the Defence sector and/or Space sector is mandatory for this position.
• Demonstrated broad understanding of national and international defence space departments, strategies, structures, doctrine and governance.
• Good understanding of Space Robotics, Satellite Systems, and/or Geointelligence and associated application potential.
• Exceptional communications skills both written and oral.
• Experience managing external stakeholder relationships.
• Capability to think critically and creatively to identify innovative opportunities, solutions and customer service options.
• Demonstrated broad, complex strategic thinking capability.
• Demonstrated ability to be customer focused.
• Expert knowledge of the Canadian Armed Forces organization, operational experience in space operations, and rules of engagement
• GoC Security Clearance Level 3 Top Secret Special Access, TSSA
• Experience operating at the Top Secret environment knowledgeable in DND security procedures

Ideal candidate:

• Retired Canadian armed forces, rank Major and above
• Valid security clearance TSSA
• Experience in DND space operations and DND space specialist qualification
• Knowledgeable on MDA space missions
