The Structural & Thermal-Fluids Engineering Group provides innovative multidisciplinary engineering solutions though the development of advanced mechanical and aerospace technologies for sea, ground, air, and space-based prototype systems for national security applications. Examples include the development of structural-material systems for space based imaging and laser communication terminals, thermal management for high-flux laser and RF solid-state devices, and aerodynamic designs for airborne sensors, hypersonic platforms, and unmanned aerial vehicles. Engineering solutions are developed through the utilization of appropriate technologies coupled with high-fidelity models and multidisciplinary simulations, environmental and performance characterization testing, and the utilization and development of advanced materials to optimize solutions to meet ever increasing performance, size, weight, and environmental challenges.

Position Description

  • The Group is seeking engineers with expertise in aerodynamics and hypersonics with a specific focus on computational fluid dynamics simulation in hypersonics regime.
  • Job responsibilities include building and executing large-scale computational simulations of hypersonic vehicles, presenting technical results to both internal and external audiences, and supporting multiple programs related to hypersonic technology development and associated aero/thermal test activities.
  • Specific experience with Linux and using High Performance Computing clusters is desired. Experience with one or more of the following CFD solvers and meshing tools is also desirable: US3D, SPARC, FUN3D, Kestrel, Cart3D, Pointwise, and/or Link3D.
  • The successful candidate will be part of an interdisciplinary engineering team contributing to the development of operational prototype hardware, spanning the full program life cycle from concept development to fielding and test.
  • The position may require special security clearances and travel to meetings and field sites.

Requirements

  • M.S. in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering. Candidates with a B.S. Degree and 3 years of direct relevant experience will also be considered.
  • The ability to work in interdisciplinary teams and experience with modern numerical simulation tools for hypersonics simulation is highly desired.
  • Candidate must be able to clearly communicate results in oral presentations and written reports.
