The Advanced Capabilities and Technologies Group develops technologies and techniques for space control, space surveillance missions, as well as terrestrial applications. The group’s principal efforts include (1) the development of novel optical interferometry systems for enhanced resolution and atmospheric mitigation; (2) development of advanced satellite systems in support of the space surveillance mission; (3) operation of an extensive observational program utilizing optical space surveillance technology to search for and discover near-Earth asteroids at the Laboratory’s field site near Socorro, New Mexico, (which has discovered more than 50% of the known asteroids in our solar system); and (4) advanced applications focused on data fusion and information extraction. The group’s current research activities span a broad range of topics, including novel visible and infrared optical systems, optical interferometry, and computational imaging and analytics, advanced image processing algorithms and techniques, and evaluation of technologies for new space systems. The group seeks researchers and technologists from a wide variety of disciplines including physics, astronomy and mathematics as well as the applied sciences (electrical, mechanical, aeronautical and astronautical engineering).

Job Description

Group 91 is seeking a System Administrator I to join our IT Team supporting the Group’s mission of conceiving and executing high risk/high payoff programs in the space domain awareness and space superiority areas.  This opportunity involves the building, maintaining and ensuring accreditation of our information systems in the unclassified areas.  The candidate will assist in supporting the Group’s existing unclassified computing needs and information systems, and partner with the Group Office, and the Division Office to ensure their computing needs are supported.  When necessary work with the Information Systems Department (ISD) and the Security Services Department (SSD) to ensure Group 91’s assets are compliant.

Responsibilities include:

  • Provide technical support to users, update system configurations, and solve problems with application compatibility, installation, operating system upgrades;
  • Apply software patches, antivirus updates, and perform backups/recoveries;
  • Develop scripts to automate various tasks;
  • Create any needed documentation;
  • Maintenance of system assets’ configuration management;
  • Coordinate procurements, installations, upgrades, and other services as needed;
  • Maintain an Active Directory Windows environment while providing desktop support to system users;
  • Work with various Laboratory Vendors/Departments to resolve Enterprise service issues (i.e. Email, DNS, Network access, etc.);
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve hardware and software problems to completion;
  • Troubleshoot Video teleconferencing and VOIP equipment.

Desired Experience:

  • Knowledgeable of Microsoft Windows (10, and server 2012/16/19) and Linux (Redhat and Debian) operating systems along with hands-on hardware and software troubleshooting experience;
  • Experience with operating systems such as Linux, Windows Server/client OS, and virtualization technologies;
  • Experience applying software patch/antivirus updates/backups;
  • Experience with file sharing protocols such as SMB, CIFS, and NFS;
  • Experience with Active Directory and the ability to perform basic tasks such as group policies, password resetting, and adding/removing users;
  • Coordinate procurements, installations, upgrades, and other services as needed;
  • DoD 8570 IAT Level II Baseline Certification required (i.e. CompTIA Sec+) or achieved within 6 months of being hired;
  • Prior experience working in a collaborative team environment desired.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science in an Information Technology related field;
  • 1 year of experience administering computer systems and networks
