Northern Space and Security (NORSS), an innovative and agile UK Space Situational Awareness company, is looking to employ an experienced and proactive Project Manager.

Based in either our Head Office in Alnwick, Northumberland or Sedgefield, County Durham and reporting to the Executive Director, this role is newly created.

The role is to lead and manage a significant project to develop a Satellite and Mission Simulator in collaboration with a partner company based in Australia for an identified customer.

This software-focused project will require dedicated management with the opportunity to extend out into other projects across the company.

As Project Manager your primary responsibility is the successful delivery of the project and software deployment. This involves working in collaboration with the project sponsor and project partner based overseas.

Responsibility will also include working to a defined schedule, the scope of work and managing the budget to ensure the project and software deployment is delivered on time and within budget and meets the standards within the design guidelines.

Other responsibilities will include –

  • Ensuring that all projects are delivered in accordance with company and project partner defined processes and are installed in accordance with design guidelines, policies and procedures
  • Planning out and working in collaboration with the partner company to develop the project plan /blueprints for the project including defining scope, allocating resources, setting deadlines, laying out communication strategies, and indicating tests and maintenance
  • Assembling and leading the project and the project team in partnership with the sponsor and partner company
  • Ensuring the project stays on schedule and adheres to the deadlines
  • Project risk management and project evaluation
  • Creating a project budget and ensuring the project adheres to the budget as closely as possible
  • Determining and overseeing consistent testing, evaluation, and troubleshooting of all products in all stages of completion
  • Tracking milestones, deliverables, and change requests
  • Delivering completed project/software products to clients and performing regular checks on the products’ performance
  • Managing the internal and external stakeholder communication and updates. Ensuring that all the projects are delivered and aligned to the funded project deliverables. (Time/Cost/Quality)
  • Ensuring progress is tracked and updated, and the weekly reporting of the project(s) is accurate and timely given all known influences

The successful candidate will require –

  • A bachelor’s degree in information technology, software development management, software engineering, computer science, physics/science, project management or a related field
  • Proven experience in project management and software development
  • Demonstrable experience in software deployment and sound knowledge of implementation and deployment processes
  • Substantial experience in project delivery
  • Good working knowledge of software deployment process (property, design, build and integration phases)
  • Fundamental understanding of all aspects of software associated with the delivery of the project
  • Exceptional client and stakeholder relationship experience in leading joint and fully funded projects
  • Working knowledge of funded programme compliance
  • Desirable technical knowledge of space operations
