Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is searching for Sr. Principal Engineer Software (multiple positions) to join the Command and Control, Communication and Computer Missile Defense (C4MD) Business Unit in support of our programs, in Huntsville, AL.

The selected candidates’ task encompasses the following: Designs, develops, documents, tests and debugs applications software and systems that contain logical and mathematical solutions. Conducts multidisciplinary research and collaborates with equipment designers and/or hardware engineers in the planning, design, development.  Determines computer user needs; analyzes system capabilities to resolve problems on program intent, output requirements, input data acquisition, programming techniques and controls; prepares operating instructions; designs and develops compilers and assemblers, utility programs, and operating systems. Ensures software standards are met.

The selected candidates must have the following skills and abilities: Must be able to apply advanced technical principles, theories, and concepts. Contribute to the development of new principles and concepts. Work on unusually complex technical problems and provide solutions which are highly innovative and ingenious. Works under consultative direction toward predetermined long-range goals and objective and self-initiate assignment when required. Determine and pursue courses of action necessary to obtain desired results.

The selected candidates work will be checked through consultation and agreement with others rather than by formal review of superior. The selected individuals will be expected to develop advanced technological ideas and guide their development into a final product. In this role, the selected candidates may be selected to serves as organization spokesperson on advanced projects and/or programs and act as advisor to management and customers on advanced technical research studies and applications.

Basic Qualifications: 14 Years with Bachelors in Science; 12 Years with Masters; 9 Years with PhD. U.S.

Citizenship is Required

  • Active Secret Security Clearance is required
  • Ability to travel is required
  • Experience with C++, C, Python, C#, Java
  • Experience with collaborating in or using source code control environment (such as GitHub)
  • Understanding of all phases of software development, and practical experience in an Agile / Dev*Ops environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with leading small teams, projects, or working as a Scrum Master
  • Knowledge of advanced programming concepts, technologies and toolsets.
  • Experience with Python, JavaScript or other scripting languages
  • Windows/Linux or Networking certification preferred (i.e. Linux+, MSCE, CCNA)
  • Security+ certification preferred
  • Experience testing SW for performance and functionality based on requirement specification and ability to identify and document exact sequence of activities desired
  • Experience with automated testing
  • Knowledge of and development experience with Army Air and Missile Defense Systems
