OHB Italia is seeking for its Satellites & Missions Business Unit in Milano or Rome for immediate start a Propulsion Architect.

The ideal candidate has a background in engineering or physics and experience working through the whole lifecycle of space and/or fluidics systems.

Familiarity with both chemical and electrical propulsion is an asset.

Your Responsibilities

  • Responsible for all propulsion activities in the Business unit
  • Responsible for End-to-end delivery of the Propulsion Subsystem (ie. From concept development to in orbit testing)
  • You report directly to the Head of Satellite System Engineering and Verification
  • Develop your business area and nurture new talents

Your Tasks

  • Definition of propulsion subsystems architecture and technology
  • Preparation of requirement specifications at subsystem and component level, according to ECSS and customer specification
  • Subco’s follow-on, components procurement and S/S and component levels review process
  • Support to design reviews with the customer
  • Preparation of design technical documentation
  • Execution of subsystem performance and functional analyses
  • Exploitation and review of test results
  • Definition and implementation of design & development plan, verification plan, AIT plan
  • Supporting integration and test activities at subsystem level
  • Collaboration with the system team for the specification, definition and verification of the system level design
  • Supporting the satellite AIT team in the satellite integration, verification and launch process
  • Develop and maintain a propulsion roadmap
  • Proposal of R&D activities

Your Qualifications

  • Degree in Aerospace or Energy engineering, Physics or similar academic curricula
  • 5+ years of experience in the propulsion field for space applications. Different level of seniority are welcome and will be evaluated, accordingly to the candidate profile
  • Knowledge of ECSS and MIL/AS standards
  • Fluency in written and spoken English. Italian or other languages are an asset

Preferred Skills and experience

  • Extensive knowledge of propulsion engine systems and components
  • Understanding of the basic principles of thermodynamics, thermochemistry, mechanics, materials and electromagnetism
  • Ability to make appropriate assumptions and perform trade studies and basic analysis using first principles and engineering fundamentals
  • Ability to work well in an integrated collaborative team environment, including frequent interactions with technicians, other engineers, and managers
  • Strong critical thinking and problem solving skills, exceptional attention to detail and self-motivated
  • Ability to handle high levels of responsibility and demonstrate appropriate accountability
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) and ability to succinctly present recommendations to colleagues and customers
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, autonomously driven, and demanding atmosphere
