ONERA, a central player in aeronautical and space research, employs more than 2,000 people. Placed under the supervision of the Ministry of the Armed Forces, it has a budget of 266 million euros (2022), more than half of which comes from study, research and test contracts. State expert, ONERA prepares the defense of tomorrow, responds to the aeronautical and space challenges of the future, and contributes to the competitiveness of the aerospace industry. He masters all the disciplines and technologies in the field.

Presentation of the department

The Aerodynamics, Aeroelasticity and Acoustics Department aims to prepare technological responses for the benefit of the industry to improve the aerodynamic, aeroelastic and acoustic performance of aircraft, and meet the challenges of competitiveness, societal, environmental and defense needs.


In the Modeling and Simulation for AeroElasticity Research Unit (MSAE), you participate in the team’s research work in the general context of the decarbonization of the aviation sector. Your activities focus in particular on the development and validation of numerical methods for the prediction of aeroelastic phenomena on new architectures.

As part of research projects in close collaboration with industrialists in the field, you use your skills in fluid and structural dynamics to contribute to the development and development of numerical methods for the prediction of the static and dynamic behavior of the structure.

For this, you first develop innovative coupling strategies around simulations implementing CFD calculations, interacting in a modular HPC environment with advanced modeling of the structure’s behavior in non-linear statics and modal dynamics. You validate these different calculation strategies in relation to the results of tests carried out on the engine configuration studied in collaboration with the experimental teams. Finally, you use these results from high-fidelity calculations to conduct prospective activities for the development of lower-fidelity models, the ultimate objective of which is to be able to predict the aeroelastic behavior of these engine configurations at a lower cost.

In parallel with these activities, you regularly take part in the technical meetings and working groups to which these activities belong. You are also involved in the operation of the unit and contribute to the orientation of the aeroelasticity theme of rotating structures. You are therefore required to supervise students and you promote your research work through publications and presentations at international conferences.

This position will be the subject of a Project or Research Operation Contract for a minimum period of 24 months for the DGAC CLEOPATRA project.


  • Doctor and/or engineer in numerical modeling applied to aerodynamics and aeroelasticity
  • Successful experience in the implementation of aerodynamic calculation codes and ideally in the calculation of structures by finite elements
  • Good knowledge of the Python language essential, simulation experience in an HPC environment appreciated
  • Fluency in written and oral communication
  • Good command of English essential
