  • Peraton has an opening for a Space Network Ground Segment Sustainment (SGSS) Network Engineer at the White Sands Complex in Las Cruces, NM. The Network Engineer will join a team of professionals responsible for configuring and monitoring parameters for networked equipment pools.
  • Peraton is the prime contractor for NASA at the White Sands Complex (WSC) near Las Cruces, New Mexico. Operating here are two functionally identical satellite ground terminals: The White Sands Ground Terminal, and the Second TDRSS Ground Terminal. These ground terminals ensure uninterrupted communications between various ground stations, NASAs orbiting constellation of Tracking and Data Relay Satellites (TDRS), customer spacecraft (satellites), and the computer systems which support such spacecraft. WSC serves as an interface for distributing satellite data to control centers and scientists who then use the daily influx of data to expand our ever-growing knowledge of the Earth and the universe.

This position will be responsible for:

  • Performing operational and/or test environment system monitoring and analysis to ensure optimal system availability.
  • Assist and actively participate with real-time operational anomalies, within the Linux, Networking, Windows Server, and Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) disciplines.
  • Managing day-to-day system parameters by assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, demands, and customer expectations.
  • Perform system administration and configuration of a networked satellite ground system.
  • Documenting and reporting event and resolution tasks, along with analyzing system logs.
  • Collaborating with other Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to restore service and/or identify system issues, and periodically supporting the integration of new system baselines as required.
  • Subject to working rotating shifts, weekends and holidays on a rotational basis as part of normal shift scheduling.
    Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in an IT, Computer, Communication or other Technical Program of study and 0-2 years of experience.In lieu of degree, 6+ years of experience may be substituted for education.
  • Shift work is required.
  • Security Clearance – this position requires the candidate to be able to obtain a SECRET security clearance. In order to obtain a clearance, you need to be a US Citizen and show proof of citizenship.An
  • Interim Secret clearance is acceptable to start.

Desired Qualifications

  • An active Secret security clearance.
  • Experience in a large-scale, high-stress, dynamic environment requiring immediate response and a strong sense of urgency.
  • Experience configuring/maintaining switches, routers, and firewalls.
  • Experience with Windows Server 2008 Active Directory.
  • Experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL).
  • Experience with CA tools: Spectrum, SOI, eHealth.
  • Experience with HP tools: HPOO, HPSA, HPNA.
  • Experience with Groovy, Python, Perl o Shell (korn/bash/batch) or other scripting languages.
  • Experience integrating new functionalities and components in an operational system.
  • Demonstrated written and oral communication skills, including ability to communicate effectively with peers and TDRS management.
  • Experience with MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
