Description
Define, check, and improve internal normative, procedures and datasets regarding materials and related processes.
Responsibilities
- Definition of internal normative and procedures regarding materials and processes (e.g. surface treatments, coatings…), as well as the improvement of the existing ones.
- Definition of quality requirements, and critical control points in the execution of processes.
- Management of internal datasets regarding material and processes.
- Test campaign definition and execution for materials characterization.
- Test campaign definition and execution for processes characterization and assessment.
- Support the Design, Manufacturing and Quality teams regarding M&P tasks.
- Research state of the art in materials and processes, identify opportunities and propose creative approaches to complex problems.
- Occasionally travel to other PLD Space plants or supplier locations.
Required competences
- Materials, Aerospace or Mechanical Engineer.
- Fluency in English is mandatory.
- +5 years’ experience in similar position.
- Knowledge of base materials and usual manufacturing processes for both metallic and composite materials.
- Mechanical characterization of materials.
- QA & QC of processes associated to materials and manufacturing processes.
- Used to work with standards (ECSS, ISO, EN, ASTM, MIL…).
- Used to work under pressure without neglecting safety and quality.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, along with excellent written and oral communication skills.
Valued competences
- Knowledge on specific space sector, space vehicles and launchers, metallic pressure vessels, COPV and payload structures is high desirable.
- Knowledge of aluminium alloys particularities as well as their thermal and mechanical treatments.
- Knowledge of welding processes and standards/codes (AWS, BPVC, ISO/IIW, ECSS…) is high desirable.
- Experience with some or all the following: corrosion, CUI, chemical and mechanical cleaning, etching, conversion coatings, anodizing, painting.
- Knowledge of usual processes involved in composite manufacturing.
- Knowledge of NDE/NDI/NDT methods.
- Basic knowledge of CAD and FEA shall be welcomed.
- Programming experience (Matlab/Octave, Python…) is desirable.
Experience
- Experience developing and conducting test plans for materials characterization.
- Experience developing reports to analyse test results from test execution.
- Experience building M&P datasets and documents (e.g. written procedures).
- QA & QC of processes associated to materials and manufacturing processes.
- Experience in laboratory work.
